Located in Markham, Ontario, Canada, the Markham Museum is a charming open-air museum covering an area of 25 acres. It is like a vivid history book, dedicated to preserving the ancient buildings and precious handicrafts of Markham's past, and showing people the historical process of the city's development from a rural village to a modern city.
Stepping into the museum, nearly 30 buildings of different styles are scattered around, like a slowly unfolding historical scroll. There are quaint houses built by German families with a history of more than 150 years, telling the life stories of their ancestors; barns, sheds, train stations, schools, grocery stores, churches, blacksmith shops, saddle shops, sawmills, cider mills and other buildings are all available, presenting the architectural features and life styles of Markham in different periods in all aspects.
This is not only a paradise for history lovers, but also a family trip. Children can play in the fun activity area and experience projects such as playing with cars, building Lego, and painting.

Show More ReviewsThis is a small, community-oriented museum. It's divided into two sections, with the entrance leading to a two-story building with a basement. The main exhibits focus on community activities, such as doctors and firefighters, and the items they used. There are also small objects that children can touch and examine. In the back, there's a large open-air area showcasing some of the old buildings from the past, including farmers' homes, hay sheds, and sheds for tools and vehicles. The lawns are well-manicured and pleasant for a stroll. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place. If you're truly interested in old-world Canadian life, you should visit Upper Canada Village. It's much more fascinating.
