Fontenay Monastery (French: Abbaye de Fontenay) is a Burgundy-area monastery built in the 12th century, is the oldest church in France and one of the oldest Sido monasteries in Europe. The monastery itself sits in the mountains, like a secluded place, and was listed on the World Heritage List in 1981. Built in the Burgundy Valley by St. Bernard, the monastery is in a Romanesque style, and the monastery's churches, cloisters, restaurants, accommodations, bakeries and steel mills perfectly illustrate the ideal of self-sufficiency for the early Sistrian monks.
