Kanheri Caves

I think this is one of the most unique monasteries and educational institutions in history over 2000 years. Located in Sanj Gandhi National Park in Borivali, the Kohli Cave is considered one of the oldest cave structures in the country. It was a study of ancient Indian architecture. For me, it was amazing to think back to life in my head. For the right understanding, hire a guide.

The caves comprises of about 109 Buddha Viharas, specially designed for the Bhikshus. It indicates that the kanheri was a large monastic settelment,probably established in the 1 st century A.D. The cells here are provided with stone beds,cisterns for storing water and walkways

I went there and spent a little over an hour walking through the caves. My advice is to ask you to book a guide or chat with one of the guards who will happily volunteer to take you to the best caves because there are only about five better caves here. You take the time to go. I had a great experience this time, an English speaking guard took me to the best caves, and when I went through all the caves, and some of them were not worth a visit, I was exhausted. Make sure you always bring cash as they don’t accept credit cards. Wear comfortable shoes. Hope you enjoy it here! I just love it!
