Gokayama

A visit at Gokayama Gassho Village, in the middle of journey to Nagoya. Bad weather bur still an interesting place to visit.

The five villages of Sangcang and Sanguma in Nanxun City are located between Shirakawa Township and Takaoka. The villagers still live in a triangular thatched palm house with a roof like a double hand, so they are designated as World Heritage Site like the famous Shirakawa Township. Most of the houses in the villages of Xiangcang and Kumuma were built in the late 19th century and have been more than 200 years old. Similar to Shirakawa, Sangcang and Summera villages, villagers used wood and thatch around the area to survive the harsh winter, building palm-like houses with steep roofs so that snow can naturally slide from the roof without the need to regularly remove snow from the roof

Free to visit, Hoklu Tour ticket to the mountains by JR, take the bus stop to Shirakawa Township, and take the bus to the five mountains at the same station. The five mountain areas of the joint palm house are built in a few small nearby mountains, each with a name. We arrived at a small set called the marsh, a dozen families, the whole set in winter is surrounded by silver mountains and green waters, the environment is really beautiful, quiet as if isolated from the world.
