The barracks gate is located on the west side of Perth CBD, on St George's Avenue, and is more than the neighbouring clubhouse, where you can learn about Western Australia's colonial history and is an important landmark in Perth. It was part of a large barracks built in the 1860s for prisoners in detention and the residence of registered retired guards and their families. As the barracks were demolished, the arches were preserved.
