Pingliang City Museum, formerly known as Pingliang Regional Museum, was established in 1979. It is located on the pagoda beam of the former site of Yan'en Temple in Zijincheng, the Han King of the Ming Dynasty. It is a national public welfare cultural institution, affiliated to the Pingliang Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film, Television, Press and Publication, with a department-level organization. It is one of the only three national second-level museums in Gansu Province. Its main functions are social education, cultural relics collection research, exhibition and archaeological excavation. The museum has more than 11,565 collections of more than ten categories, including bronzes, ceramics, gold and silver wares, jades, inscriptions, murals, calligraphy and painting, and shadow puppets. Among them, there are 842 national precious cultural relics. It is a comprehensive historical and cultural museum integrating cultural relics collection, exhibition, academic research and social education. It was opened to the public in 2008, receiving nearly 1,000 visitors a day and about 300,000 visitors a year.
