The entire forest was covered in ice crystals, instantly stepping into a rime wonderland. Every photo I took looked like it had a built-in filter. I even spotted a little fox! ❷ M Cable Car · Sunset Cable Car Selfie The sunset glow bathed the M Cable Car, with each cabin gliding across the snowy mountains and blue sky—just like a scene from an animation! You definitely have to get a friend to snap a photo here! ❸ Qingyun Avenue · Exclusive Sunset Ski Slope Taking the last G Cable Car at 3:30 PM, I skied down Qingyun Avenue. The whole slope was bathed in golden light. At this time, with fewer people and pristine snow, skiing toward the sunset and distant mountains brings an immense sense of freedom! 📝 Some Tips · Beidahu Ski Resort has 74 slopes, each with its own scenery. The mossy half isn't the canyon (it's bare granite) — it's the first 40 km out of Sault where the train crawls through Picea mariana (black spruce) bog and Sphagnum mats flash green between the pine trunks, fog off Lake Superior till 9. Sit left from Sault to Agawa; the bog boardwalk sections at Mile 92 show Hypnum on the tie-stones. Mistake: I rode Oct 1 expecting summer green — peak colour, moss under red maple litter, gorgeous but not the bog-green I wanted, CA$170 vs CA$154. Aug for moss, Sep for colour. Second mistake: I brought 1 L water — coach has snack bar but 10 hrs, dehydrated, bought CA$4.50 bottle on board. Carry 2 L. Buy in Sault: a CA$6 poutine at the waterfront, not the CA$22 train snack bar wrap. Gear: 2 L water, CA$120 shoes (you walk the canyon stairs 90 min), CA$40 shell. Local rule: CA$154–170 card book, 90 min park stop only, no off-train elsewhere, no drone in the canyon (Group of Seven heritage), stay on the stair tread, the spruce root is boreal 200 yr not a step. Opinion: Agawa is the CA$154 day that sells Group-of-Seven granite, and the mossy black-spruce bog 40 km out of Sault is the 20-min half with zero canyon-stair crowd. Should Agawa Tour add a CA$2 honour box at Mile 92 for tie-board, or keep CA$154 flat? I'd add it. Would you sit 10 hrs on a coach for a mossy Algoma spruce bog?
