It is the high level of civilization that allows Singaporeans to present a clean and decent state, even the taxi drivers. The driver who took us to the Singapore Zoo that day was just like that, a man in his fifties, with a clean car, no unpleasant smell, and dressed decently, not like someone from the taxi driver class. He started talking to us, and we could tell he was Chinese, who had come here with his grandfather since he was young. His grandfather was from Fujian and had worked in a shipyard. Many Chinese in Singapore are from Fujian. The taxi stopped at the entrance of the zoo. When we went in to watch, we shared the sky with the birds here. Perhaps it is this kind of environment that is not quite free, nor unfree, that makes some birds live irritably inside, flying close to people's scalps. I reminded my son to be careful of the birds, but before I finished speaking, a bird "swooshed" over his head. The bird didn't tuck its claws tightly enough when flying, and it pecked up my son's hair several times. 📝Singapore Travelogue part11: Singapore Zoo📝 🐵🐵🐵🐵 The Singapore Zoo is really awesome, all the animals here are not kept in cages, they are separated from the visitors using trees, water, terrain, and other geographical features or barriers. You can feel that every layout is full of design, and the animals seem to live very well, not looking pitiful at all. Watching them is like being in nature, and taking photos is easy without too much obstruction from glass or iron fences. 🦍🦍🦍🦍 There are little activities everywhere like riding elephants and feeding giraffes, not just for kids, but 'big kids' can have a lot of fun too, making it a zoo for all ages. Singapore Zoo offered a decent wildlife experience. We visited on an especially hot day, but I still managed to spend several hours wondering around, as there is so much to see. The Fragile Forest area is probably my favorite. It mimics a tropical rainforest habitat and is well laid out for residents and visitors. Animals in here include monkeys, sloths, a variety of colourful birds and curious little Mousedeer (the name says it all). The butterflies at the entrance are beautiful too. I always love seeing the monkeys and Singapore Zoo has a great variety of them. The reptile house is very impressive - turtles, snakes, lizards, spiders and more. And it's a little cooler than outside. The cheetahs, tigers and lion were active and visible when we arrived, just after opening. I recommend getting to the zoo early, especially of you want to see these big cats as they were hiding later in the day. The tram that runs regularly between zones is great, especially when fatigue sets in. There are a number of vending machines dotted around the zoo where you can get refreshment and there's a large cafe and restaurant near the entrance.
