Jiulong Pool, Kunyu Mountain

The Nine Dragon Pool is composed of nine natural stone pools of varying sizes arranged in a row on a spiral staircase about 100 meters high. The large pool has a diameter of 6 meters and a depth of 3 meters, while the small pool has a diameter of less than 1 meter and a depth of 6 meters.

In the rainy season, the wind stirs up a swirling current that rushes thousands of miles, like a giant silver dragon's tail swinging to the northeast, with its waist bending several times to the south, like a giant dragon climbing the mountain. It is a natural, dangerous and wonderful thing.

Legend has it that the Dragon King of the East China Sea had nine sons. When they were young, they were willful and playful, violated the heavenly rules, and caused great disasters. The Jade Emperor banished them to Kunyu Mountain to reflect on their mistakes. The nine dragons were banished, and the world suffered from drought for decades. The people knelt and prayed for rain year after year. Considering the suffering of the people, the Jade Emperor sent the South Pole Immortal on the 13th day of the sixth lunar month to announce the release of the nine dragons. Suddenly, auspicious clouds descended from the sky and rain fell all over the world.

To commemorate this day, the locals designated the 13th day of the sixth lunar month as the Jiulong Temple Fair, which has been passed down to this day. Zhao Ziyuan, a poet in the Qing Dynasty, once wrote, "The wild nature is hard to tame, roaring and running, the jade box is broken and the water flows... a scale opens its claws and fights fiercely, the angry water boils like a squid hole." The scholars believed that "there is a dragon living there", so it was named Jiulong Pond.

The water in the pool comes from mountain springs, which are sweet, clear, and can be seen through to the bottom. It flows all year round. In spring, the water is flowing gently, reflecting the clear sky; in summer, the waterfall splashes, and the wind stirs the suspended water, just like a colorful dragon, flying down three thousand feet, like scattering beads and spraying snow, which is extremely spectacular; in autumn, the water is rippling with blue waves and sparkling with scales; in winter, the ice shoots hang upside down, containing pearls and spewing jade. The length and size of the waterfall are rare in Shandong Province, and it is known as the "No. 1 Waterfall in Qilu."
