Jinshan is located to the northwest of Zhenjiang city, with an elevation of 43.7 meters and covers an area of 41.6 hectares. The scenery of Jinshan is secluded and naturally beautiful, and it has been one of China's famous tourist destinations since ancient times. In ancient times, Jinshan was an island standing in the middle of the Yangtze River, known as 'a beautiful lotus flower in the heart of the river'. Tang Dynasty poet Zhang Hu described it as 'tree shadows seen in the flowing water, bell sounds heard from both banks'. Northern Song Dynasty scholar Shen Kuo praised it saying, 'Pavilions and towers on both banks connect with the water, north and south of the river reflect the sky in the mirror.'
