Snake Island

Snake Island is located on the Bohai Bay in the northwest corner of Lushunkou District, Dalian City. The seawater around Snake Island is about 30 meters deep, the island is about 1,500 meters long and 800 meters wide, with a total area of 1.2 square kilometers. At present, there are more than 18,000 black-browed pit vipers of a single species living on the island, which can be called the kingdom of pit vipers. Snake Island is one of the strange islands in my country and is a nature reserve. The terrain is high in the southwest and low in the northeast, in the shape of an abalone shell, with seven mountain ridges and eight ditch. The main peak is 216.9 meters above sea level, surrounded by cliffs and rocks, except for a pebble beach in the southeast corner. The island has deep steep ditch, deep soil layer, loose structure, and many natural rock cracks and caves, which have become a good environment for pit vipers to live and live. There are more than 200 species of plants flourishing all over the island. Forests, stone caves, mountain ridges, and yin valleys are all places where black-browed pit vipers are active. There are two differences between the black-browed pit viper and other types of snakes: one is aestivation, and the other is viviparous. It is said that it will only give birth to one per year after one conception, and it will take several years to give birth. Spring and autumn are the feeding season for pit vipers, and a large number of migratory birds become the prey of snakes. In order to be safe, landing on the island must be carried out in an organized manner, and you need to go to the management office of Laotieshan Nature Reserve to go through the formalities. Landing on the island is restricted by many factors such as seasons, weather, and guides, and it is dangerous to go to the island, so it is not possible to visit the island at any time.
