Vianden, located on the banks of the Our River in northeastern Luxembourg, bordering Germany, is one of Luxembourg's most charming medieval towns, with a population of approximately 2,000. Vianden's most famous landmark is Vianden Castle. This castle, built in the 11th century, blends Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles and is considered one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Europe. Climbing the castle offers spectacular views of the entire old town, the Our River, and the surrounding Ardennes Forest. The French literary giant Victor Hugo lived in Vianden in 1871; his former residence has been converted into the Victor Hugo Museum, showcasing his life, works, and sketches from that time. Visitors can also take Luxembourg's only open-air cable car for panoramic views of the valley and castle, or stroll through the old town to experience its tranquil atmosphere.
