Guest User: Great value for money, comfortable weekend getaway! Booked Hampton by Hilton Fucheng for a trip to Mianyang with friends, and everyone was really happy with it. The hotel facilities are very new, and the air conditioning works exceptionally well – stepping in from the summer heat, you're immediately greeted by a cool breeze. No stuffiness at all, even with a crowd. We have to praise the Mianyang rice noodles for breakfast; you get to choose between clear or spicy broth, and the beef topping was so flavorful. Everyone slurped down a bowl and agreed it was authentic. The room was spacious and clean, the bedding was comfortable, and the night view from the window was also beautiful. The location is right in the city center, with shopping and food streets right outside. Staying here was super convenient.

It’s very close to the railway station and the government service center, making travel and errands super convenient. The Shuangbei Night Market is within walking distance, which makes grabbing a late-night snack effortless. The room was impeccably clean with no strange odors. Being on a high floor, the view was wide and open, and the floor-to-ceiling windows offered a bird's-eye view of the cityscape, making for a fantastic experience. A must-visit spot is the trendy staircase on the 31st floor—the ambiance is incredible and it's the absolute best place for photos! I have to give a special shoutout to the breakfast! The variety was rich and the taste was on point. The rice noodles were genuinely the best I've had in all of Mianyang, and the shrimp dumplings from the steaming station blew me away on the first bite. The hotel's 'Best Brews' restaurant also serves craft beer, which is great for a relaxing casual drink. The Marriott Bonvoy member benefits are a huge plus! Marriott is currently partnered with Didi, so calling a ride using the hotel's location earns you Marriott Bonvoy points—super friendly for members. Overall, the service is attentive and the hardware is solid. It's well-suited for both business trips and vacations. I've already recommended it to my friends and will definitely stay here again next time I'm in Mianyang!

Leaving Lanchi Temple, I continued deeper into the mountains to visit a niche national heritage site hidden in Yanting. The first stop was Wenxing Temple. Although the navigation showed only about 30 kilometers, the mountain roads were difficult, and it took an hour and a half to drive there. · Before visiting, I saw photos and thought Wenxing Temple was tucked away in a valley, but it is actually on a hillside, which is quite remarkable. You can drive all the way to the foot of the mountain and then walk up the bluestone steps. At the end of the steps is a newly built antique-style gate, while the only remaining original structure is one hall—Guixiang Hall. · Guixiang Hall is three bays wide with a single-eave hip-and-gable roof and small grey tiles. It uses a mix of beam-lifting and *taidan* (a type of structural framing) construction and sits on a two-meter-high stone base. The dougong under the eaves of Wenxing Temple are quite spectacular; the seven large dougong on the crossbeam are curled like blooming chrysanthemums or coiled dragon claws, with exceptionally fine carving. This type of dougong structure was historically used in temples dedicated to Confucius, indicating its high status. It is the only ancient temple with this type of dougong in all of Yanting County. · However, Wenxing Temple is dedicated to Wenchang Dijun, not Confucius. The worship of the Zitong deity originated in Sichuan, evolved into Wenchang worship from the Southern Song to the Yuan Dynasty, and spread across the country during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Scholars would pray to him for success in their careers, and this temple is a physical manifestation of that trend reaching the countryside. · According to the introduction and a stele inscription from the fourth year of the Jiaqing reign, the temple had already been established for "over a hundred years" at that time. Cultural relic experts estimate it dates back to the Ming Dynasty, with some research pinpointing it to the 12th year of the Zhengtong reign. Interestingly, after the Qing Dynasty, the temple was managed by monks, yet it housed Taoist statues and even added a Confucian memorial tablet, with all three religions squeezed into one village temple. · The most valuable part of the entire Wenxing Temple is the writing on the beams. There are 25 ink inscriptions on the beams, ridges, purlins, and lintels that record both the construction and subsequent repairs. Several of these inscriptions state that the carpenters who built the temple came from Wuchang, Huguang (modern-day Hubei), and that the blacksmiths and masons were also mostly from Hubei. Therefore, the beam framing and decorations of this small temple in northern Sichuan bear a distinct style from the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It is a typical example of late Ming Dynasty architectural art from the Huguang region being introduced to Sichuan, and it also marks the beginning of *taidan* framing in Sichuan. · I visited Wenxing Temple after the repairs were completed, but I was very disappointed with the overall result. The reason is simple: the atmosphere of a rustic village temple is completely gone. The base, walls, and beams have been cleaned up too much, and the colors are too new; standing in the hall feels like walking into a newly finished show home. Many of the ink inscriptions on the Ming Dynasty beams and columns have become blurred, and it is difficult to make out the strokes while looking up from inside the hall. Fortunately, Qijiang Ancient Town remains, having largely preserved its original character. · Qijiang was the capital of the State of Qi during the pre-Qin period. Qixian County was established here in the sixth year of Emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty, and it later served as the seat of the Dongguanghan Commandery during the Shu Han period, and the seat of Feiwu County during the Sui and Tang dynasties. For over 2,000 years, the administrative seat has never moved. The town rose to prominence due to the salt industry, but its remote location caused it to be left behind by the times, which, ironically, allowed it to preserve its roots.
