On our last day in Paris we decided to walk from the apartment that we were renting in the Passy neighborhood to the Jardin du Luxembourg. We came across La Tour de Nesle on our way and decided to have lunch. My wife had a very nice Caprese salad. I wanted fish, so I asked the waiter, who didn't speak much English, about the items on the board. He tried to explain aile de raie, and we finally figured out that it was skate. I've usually had skate fried or broiled, so that is what I expected. What came out from the kitchen was baked, and for the first time ever the cartilidge was left in the skate wing. It took a bit of work to avoid it. It was served with an ample serving of boiled potatoes. It was good, but different from what I was used to.
