2-Star Hotels in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan

This hostel has some genuinely strong points, but also several issues that stop it from being a great stay. It’s very much a mix of highs and lows. The positives: The common room is comfortable, with very good sofas and fast Wi-Fi (though it occasionally drops out — a router upgrade would easily fix this). There’s a shared kitchen with a labelled fridge, and the location is excellent for exploring Nagasaki. Dorm rooms are good value for the price. Bed spaces are a decent size, with excellent blackout curtains that block light even if others leave the lights on. You also get a small lockbox for valuables. The negatives: Check-in is fully self-service with no reception. You’re given a folder with rules and keys, but if you need help, there’s no clear support — which can be stressful, especially for travellers without phone SIMs. There is no lift. I stayed on the fourth floor, and the narrow stairs make carrying luggage difficult. Facilities per floor are also limited: only one toilet and one shower shared between multiple dorms, plus the washer and dryer on the same floor, which feels insufficient and awkward. Extras are all paid separately (towels, toothbrushes, earplugs, etc.). A towel really should be included at this price. Guests are also expected to strip their own bedsheets at checkout, which feels excessive. The common room layout could be improved. A large hammock takes up space and reduces seating — replacing it with chairs or bar seating would make the area far more usable. There were also staff or long-term workers frequently occupying the common room, which made the space feel less guest-focused. Air conditioning is locked and cannot be adjusted, so if you’re too hot or cold, you have no control. Would I stay again? As a backpacker on a very tight budget, yes — tahe location and price make it workable. But if you can afford it, I’d recommend paying more for a private room nearby. There are many hotels in the area offering much better comfort and support.

Location: Pros: * Close to Chinatown, the Shianbashi bar district, and a shopping street. Cons: * A bit far from the main train station and the airport limousine bus stop. Facilities: Pros: * The mattress is thick, and the height and width are significantly better than typical capsule hotels. It felt comfortable and not cramped. Cons: * Poor sound insulation. I could hear footsteps. * There's a potential that snoring or alarms could disrupt sleep. However, the number of people on one floor is much smaller than in a regular capsule hotel. Other features: * There's a public bath. While not large, it's sufficient given the number of guests. * There's a lounge area near the reception for computer work or eating. Overall: Regarding noise, it's a matter of luck, but it's overwhelmingly more comfortable than a standard capsule hotel. This place is highly recommended for travelers who want to explore the city until night and then have a proper bed to sleep in. If it's significantly cheaper than a typical business hotel, I'd definitely stay here again.

The spacious bed was very comfortable, even with children. The separate bath and toilet were clean, which was great. The location was also excellent, within walking distance to Spectacles Bridge and the downtown area. I would definitely like to stay here again.

It was a truly wonderful experience, touring the island on a motorbike which I rented from the hostel. Especially, driving on the North-Western peninsula became an unforgettable memory. Toured around several Catholic churches, watched the sunset over the sea, and drove to the tip of the peninsula. There were few cars on the road, so the journey to the torch felt as if I had the entire road to myself. It was absolutely special. I will definitely come back here someday in the future! The owner is such a kind and helpful person. The hostel is simple, yet it's more than enough for a budget trip for one night. Honestly one of my favourite hostels in Japan, there’s not any social life as seems to be the standard here but the rooms are spacious light and bright, the beds are comfy and there’s loads of shelf space and a locker and lots of sockets in your bunk area so it feels super comfortable and accommodating. Location is great for exploring Nagasaki for a few days. Kitchen and living area is nice to cook & chill in and free toast in the morning is a cute way to start the day. Would have stayed longer! (Oh and absolutely make sure you get up to Mt Inasa Observatory for the nighttime views STUNNING)

The hotel is clean and newly renovated. It’s so good - there’s washer and dryer in the room (bring own detergent). Bathroom has bathtub. Public baths separated for men and women. There’s table tennis with bats and balls, at the lounge, for guests. Carpark is just at doorstep. Beautiful view - beach is about 10mins in front and 7-11 in front of hotel. Would stay again. Delicious bento Breakfast is and has alot.

Very satisfied! It was so good that I have no other words to say! The owner and his wife were very polite and kind, and we had a very enjoyable stay! The showers and toilets were clean, and it wasn't like a capsule hotel, with 5 rooms on one floor, so it didn't feel cramped! It was just like the photos, so I can see why other people have praised it! At night, the statue of the 12 martyrs is lit up and you can see it clearly from the window! There is a slope to the hotel, but it is close to Nagasaki Station, so it is good for people who want to go sightseeing right away! The slope is quite steep, but other than that I am very satisfied! I wasn't able to go to Gunkanjima this time, so the next time I go to Nagasaki for revenge, I will definitely stay at this hotel!

We enjoyed our one night stay at this Guesthouse, which can give a feel of Japanese ryokans. Our tatami room was perfect for the experience, very ample, very comfortable. The guesthouse has its baths, which are good to use. The morning breakfast included in the price is perfect insight into the traditional Japanese cuisine, location in walking distance to the Unzen sights, parking at the site, with good price for this all.
