The Melbreak Hotel

Wow!! What an amazing hotel. We arrived in the middle of a power outage, to be met by polite friendly and professional staff, we were made aware of the situation and offered a seat by the fire with complimentary nibbles, we were kept up to date with the situation throughout until power was restored. Considering the disruption, the staff remained calm and all food was delivered promptly and was delicious. The rooms were very tastefully done, well equipped and spotless, beds were extremely comfy and the rooms were toasty warm on a night that got below freezing. Breakfast was really good and we were well looked after by all of the staff. We have to say it is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in and would 100% recommend The Melbreak to anyone. Well done everyone concerned

I booked this guest house for my mums birthday. My mums birthday was in February, unfortunately due to an accident I had. I wasn't able to do something nice for my mums 70th. I said to my mum we will go away for a few days My mum wanted to go to windermere for a few days. I booked this guest house only because I was either looking for a twin room, although we would have shared a double room if needs be. The room available was a family room, so I booked it. On arrival, we were greeted with the owner. Who showed us up to our room. Which was at the top of the building. I was worried about climbing the stairs, after my accident I hadn't climbed stars. However, I managed ok. The room was small, although it was clean. My mum took the double bed, and I took the single. On each side, if the double bed was bedside drawers. They wasn't anything next to the single bed. I had to put my cups of tea on the floor. They were an extension plug socket. To put your own charger in. In our room, they were a form we had to fill out and leave downstairs ready for breakfast the next morning. Even though we did this. They still couldn't get our breakfast right. They had to ask us what we wanted. I thought we had put down what we wanted. The tables were a bit close together, and I found it difficult to get in and out. When I wanted to get up to help myself to coffee or cereal. The guest house is on a main road, with a good open top hop on bus service. That runs every 20 minutes. It's a 25/ 30-minute walk to the lake. They are a few shops close by and there are plenty of places to eat and drink. The train station is a few minutes' walk away, with a bus station. If you fancy a bus ride to somewhere else. We didn't have a car so the bus to kendal. Made a change. If we go to windermere again, I would look at better hotels or guest houses. We enjoyed our few days at windermere and the weather was lovely
Keswick Country House Hotel

The hotel is in a good location, just in the small town on Devon Lake. The room standard is 16 square meters, but it feels like it should be more than 20 square meters. Clean and hygienic. The service attitude is good, we arrived early, and the front desk gave the room without saying a word. The restaurant in the hotel is also very good and the dishes are delicious. Some local elderly people say that they have been eating in the restaurant for more than 20 years.

Ambiance, peaceful, service , food , staff, accommodation all 10/10 faultless beautiful setting food all top notch owner chef clearly prides himself on providing the best possible experience. We were met with a cafetière of coffee and fresh scones and enjoyed them in a delightfully comfortable sitting room overlooking the lake. This was the start of 2 enjoyable days. Staff were all friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble all the bedrooms were beautiful the dining room is a delight breakfast beautifully presented and prepared in a gorgeous setting. And the evening meal equally enjoyable in a relaxing bubble of tranquility chef even took into account my wife’s dislike of garlic and presented her with food she enjoyed . We will definitely return wish the hotel every success well deserved let’s hope I can get in next time we book- Thankyou
Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa

This hotel remains a must-do destination. I visited recently for the first time in 50 years. Delightfully, this historic building remains well looked after and well-run. Significant thought has gone into maintaining and extending the estate. The hotel’s wealth of historic features and furnishings remains. (The billiard room is a sight to see!). Stunning cocktail bar. Rooms remain comfortable and well-thought out. We had a deluxe room with lake view and a very comfy bed. Modern touches included a TV fitted into the bathroom and the spa is of the highest quality. Our complimentary visit to the wildlife park revealed its heartening ethos of conservation and we were lucky to witness a bird of prey experience in the grounds of the hotel. The deputy manager Richard is attentive and supportive. I am looking forward to seeing what the hotel does with the historic walled kitchen garden, which uniquely has a mountain stream running through it.

We have just returned from a 4 day break at the NDGH. We have stayed there a number of times before and had a wonderful time on each occasion. This was no exception. The location is magnificent and the hotel provided everything we needed to make our break exceptional. The food was excellent, the staff were always helpful, and the room was comfortable. Thanks go to Diane and her colleagues. We really appreciated what you did to make our break memorable. See you again soon.
