"The room was predictably small. When I first arrived, the white door wasn't opening, and I wasn't sure how to get in! 😂 Turns out, the door right next to it just pushed open.
The breakfast was nothing special either, just cereal, milk, bread, and various cheeses.
The location is quite convenient for the train station, making transfers easy.
I think for Chinese travelers, this would generally be considered a very ordinary hotel. In China, hotels nowadays usually have pretty good decor and a modern feel, whereas European hotels are generally smaller and older."

Chee KoonSituated in the Altstadt-Nord district, Hotel Merian is a short 2-minute walk from Cologne Central Station (Köln Hbf) and less than 10 minutes on foot from the Cologne Cathedral. This is the kind of hotel I am looking for and I highly recommend to anyone who is searching for an affordable stay in the heart of Cologne city.

Guest UserThe front desk staff were incredibly friendly and always greeted us with a smile. They were very welcoming and helpful. The hotel environment is lovely, situated right by the Rhine River, and has a strong artistic vibe indoors, with art pieces even in the rooms. The Chocolate Museum is right across the street, and there's a bus stop conveniently located outside. While it's a little further from Cologne Central Station, it feels much quieter and less noisy. The rooms are spacious, modern, and soundproof. I would definitely choose this hotel again for my next visit. Highly recommended!

joo youn jungMy children wanted to have chocolate on Easter morning.My kids really wanted it, so I asked a male room cleaner for an Easter rabit chocolate, but I don't know the name. After wait a few minutes and then he got me one. he was so kind and thankful, but I couldn't tip him because i didn't have the cash. Please pass this massage on to him. Thank you very much.

ChenzhiliThis is a great hotel with new facilities, perfect for exhibitions and tourism. It's definitely worth choosing, especially given its excellent location close to both the train station and the exhibition hall. The hotel also has a cafe, ideal for chatting with friends or business associates.

Guest UserVery conveniently situated next to the train station and the main street. Rooms are clean and practical, breakfast is pretty good. We stayed with our 2 year old, which came for free. We had to bring our own travel cot but the room was specious enough to put the cot.

George HuaWe come to this hotel every year, and we can see the facilities in the room degrading. The were fine around 2016 to 2019, after covid lock down, when we were back in 2023, still good, and 2024, fine. Till this year, 2025, the toilet flush is half broke, shower head is not in good condition. Breakfast service is shrank, no more take away coffee cups.

Only stayed for one night, when we attended an event in Cologne. The hotel was so convenient to find. On the S-bahn, it was 1 stop away from the central train station, and about a 5 minute walk from S-bahn stop to hotel. Lovely modern. clean hotel, comfortable bed & pillows, great shower, fluffy towels. Actually better than some European hotels that charge a lot more. I would stay again and would also look for this brand in other cities.
