This seaside town on the Kumano Kodo is super chill. The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from the JR station, on flat ground, so it's easy to pull your luggage. There's also a convenience store along the way if you need to stock up. I booked a sea-view room, and you can see both the blue hour and the sunrise. The sea air isn't smelly at all. The kaiseki dinner was excellent, with a Chinese menu, and dishes served one by one. This area is known for tuna, and the sashimi was incredibly fresh and thickly sliced – absolutely superb. You can definitely eat until you're stuffed. The breakfast was also very unique, and they even offered free noodles at 9 PM. Even though I was full, I couldn't resist trying them, and they were delicious. The outdoor onsen was fantastic too; my skin felt so smooth after soaking. I highly recommend this place for anyone hiking the Kumano Kodo looking for a relaxing break.

Having stayed at Granvia Okayama before and been very impressed, I didn't hesitate to choose this hotel again for my trip to Wakayama. The quality and service were consistently excellent, as always. Although the room wasn't huge, it had everything we needed, and there was plenty of space for two people to open two large suitcases without any problems. The hotel's location is also fantastic; an LV store is right downstairs with a good selection of bags, perfect for browsing. During our stay, we even caught a Hokkaido fair at the adjacent mall, which was a delightful bonus. It was super convenient for getting to the Tama Densha, Wakayama Castle, and Kuroshio Market.

This onsen hotel in Shirahama-cho, Wakayama Prefecture, is primarily renowned for its breathtaking 'ocean view hot springs.' Boasting open-air, mixed-gender baths directly facing the Pacific Ocean, the panoramic views are truly spectacular, and the experience of soaking in the springs with the sea right in front of you is unforgettable—a timeless signature feature. Additionally, the hotel offers several 'kashikiri-buro' (private hot springs) that require queuing for a key, adding an option for more private bathing. However, in other aspects of the experience, the hotel generally falls short, failing to fully match the grandeur of its views: • **Mediocre Service**: Compared to the meticulous and heartfelt 'omotenashi' (hospitality) typical of traditional Japanese ryokans, Haishu's service feels more process-driven and standardized. While the staff are polite, they lack proactiveness, giving it the feel of a large resort rather than a cozy private inn. • **Many Elderly Guests**: The hotel is very popular among older tourists, which contributes to a lively and mainstream atmosphere, lacking some of the tranquility and elegance one might desire. If you're seeking a quiet getaway for two, you might find the environment a bit noisy. • **Unremarkable Dining**: Reviews for both dinner (kaiseki cuisine) and breakfast, included in the 'one night, two meals' package, are generally 'average.' Although local specialties (like Kishu plums and Kumano beef) are highlighted, the actual taste and presentation are only mediocre. It's worth noting that it's 'not as bad as some online comments suggest,' falling within an acceptable range, but it doesn't offer any surprises and falls short of the dining standards found in top-tier onsen ryokans. **Summary**: If you're going solely for the stunning ocean-view hot springs, Haishu is definitely worth a stay—the natural scenery there is unparalleled. However, if you have high expectations for service details, dining quality, or a quiet atmosphere, this hotel might only offer an 'average' experience, and you should adjust your expectations accordingly.

There are only a handful of top-rated hotels in Wakayama. I deliberated between this one and the one located at the JR station, ultimately choosing this hotel because of reviews mentioning Wakayama Castle views and a good breakfast, though I was slightly worried about transportation. My actual experience proved transport to be very convenient; a bus ride was just over ten minutes and dropped me off right at the hotel's doorstep. After checking in and going up to my room, I eagerly pulled back the curtains and was instantly thrilled to see Wakayama Castle, majestically framed by the twilight hills and a purple sky. The room was quite spacious, featuring a small sofa seating area by the window. There was ample space to open two suitcases without any issue. After a quick tidy-up, I couldn't wait to head out and explore. Though Wakayama Castle may not be as renowned as the four great ancient castles, its charm lies in its remarkably welcoming and accessible design. The path circling the castle walls is open to the public, and you can easily enter by crossing a small bridge over the moat. It was pleasant to see locals strolling and jogging around. After a half-lap exploration, I found the perfect spot for night photos and was extremely pleased with the view. Breakfast on the second day was served at a Japanese-Western fusion restaurant downstairs. The food selection was extensive, and the quality was excellent—truly impeccable. There's also a soba noodle shop within the building, which was delicious and reasonably priced. I had read reviews previously suggesting there weren't many dining options near the hotel, but actually, there are several restaurants and a convenience store right inside the building, which was fantastic. Overall, it was a very satisfying stay.

I was a bit worried about the wooden building, wondering what it would be like, but it looked just like the dilapidated wooden building next door (lol). There were creaky stairs and hallways, and signs above the rooms indicating where the emergency equipment was installed. I even passed my room once (lol). The door wasn't an auto-lock, but a manual lock. The door opened from the inside, making it difficult to find shoes and slippers. The bathroom was just to the right, but putting my shoes at the back made it inconvenient to get in and out, while putting them at the front made it inconvenient (lol). Entering the room across a narrow bay, I found it spacious! It was a bright corner room with a great view! My biggest concern was the futon, but it had a 10cm mattress, so it was just as comfortable as a bed! I didn't notice any smells or anything. The ocean was right below the window, so it looked like I could go fishing (lol). It was full of interesting things to point out, and while I found it amusing to joke about wanting to take pictures of dilapidated buildings, I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for luxury. For me, it was surprisingly good ☺

The hotel is situated at a secluded corner of Wakayama prefecture. It is much preferable to drive here rather than relying on the infrequent hotel shuttle. Public transport is otherwise non existent. There are no restaurants around the hotel. However the hotel provides delicious meals with abundant fresh seafood. The in room dining experience is superb. The hotel staff service is impeccable. The room has a spectacular sea view allowing you to see the sunset on clear days. The onsen also faces the sea which provides a relaxing experience. A downside is that the hotel does not seem to sanitize the slippers for indoor use. All hotel guests had to change to their slippers to access their indoor facilities.

Make sure to book the Nisshokan if it's close to the 15th of the ***** month; you'll be rewarded with a moonlit Pacific Ocean, a million times more beautiful than the sunrise Pacific. The onsen (hot spring) is fantastic, and the views of Mount Myoken are stunning—definitely go in the evening. Breakfast is incredibly rich and varied. As for dinner, there's plenty of fresh tuna. In short, this is the top hotel choice in Kii-Katsuura. I was hesitant before coming, but after arriving, I feel that booking Hotel Urashima was the best money spent on my entire trip to Japan!

The shuttle bus from Ikidanabe JR Station was at around 2pm. If you missed it, you can only take a taxi there, which costs about 1700JP. The beach behind the hotel is very beautiful, and you can see the sunset. I booked a one-night stay with two meals. The dinner was pretty good, and the quality was higher than that of several hotels behind the Kumano Kodo! There was also dandan noodles for supper in the evening. Personally, I feel that except for the inconvenient transportation, I am satisfied with the hotel in other aspects! The shuttle bus was delivered to Ikidanabe Station at 10am in the morning. We felt it was a bit late, so we asked the front desk to call a taxi to the station. Other areas are good!

I came here because of Detective Conan, and the hotel's location is just incredible – facing the sea, absolutely stunning! However, since the hotel is in a small town, taking the bus during peak season can be really inconvenient. You can contact the hotel to arrange a taxi, but most local drivers don't speak English. There are many great places to eat in town, but they tend to close early. The hotel's onsen is very comfortable; soaking in the hot spring while listening to the sea is a wonderful experience. The hotel is also very close to Engetsu Island, where you can watch the sunset 🌄 – it's truly amazing and perfect for photos! The only drawback is that the facilities are a bit old, probably due to its long history!

The location is absolutely fantastic. It's right at Wakayama-shi Station, which is the terminus of the Nankai Line. From here, you can catch a direct train to Osaka Namba, arriving in about an hour, and usually find a seat to relax during the journey. I forgot to take pictures of the room, but it was definitely spacious enough, especially compared to typical rooms in Osaka or Tokyo. The rooftop bath was also a wonderful highlight.

SSidifennierLocation: About a 15-minute taxi ride from Shirahama Station, and there's also a bus that stops right at the entrance. The overall design is quite modern, and the ocean view far exceeded my expectations. The Pacific Ocean views from both the common areas and the rooms are very chill and expansive. Facilities: The room size is significantly larger than hotels of similar price in big cities, making for a very comfortable stay. Dining: A convenience store is just a 5-minute walk away. Right next door is a popular ramen shop; although it's mostly frequented by Chinese tourists, the taste is genuinely good and perfect for dinner. In the morning, I bought bread and coffee from the lobby and took it to the terrace to enjoy while soaking my feet and gazing at the sea – utterly delightful. This is a fantastic ocean-view hotel for a vacation, and I would definitely come back given the chance!

PPinkozxcIt wasn't the most pleasant experience considering that the males n females had to share toilets and that some other rooms had private toilets n bath instead. And also the fact that the walls are super thin hence whomever is connected to your room if their loud or they don't like your voice volume than you might get kicked to the curb. It's a very frustrating experience for sure since it tests one's patience n ability to let go. It's training for the customers n monks alike. I met a Japanese friend here whom shared with me how rude the monks and the staff were to one another n I think that shows the quality of this place however we were pretty lucky as there was a male who spoke mandarin n a male who spoke English both quite well in this place n though the mandarin speaker was quite condescending towards the other monks, the English speaker was really nice n patient overall. He helped me out a lot since we couldn't communicate with the others n seemed to be the only customers that spoke English whom booked this place by ourselves, the others around seemed to have a guide n were usually in groups. It's a unique experience n I recommend just staying for one night or going to the other temples. I went for the ajikan meditation at eko in temple n the service n cleanliness was on another level for sure. The food here was also really simple. Also a must see are the tomb area n the walk to kobold daishi temple. As a sensitive person, I felt the overwhelming love n presence and the cleanse of my heart of this amazing soul over there. To me, that was worth it. Remember to clean yourself with the water out front before going in.... and of course to the amazing fateful friendship that occurred for us with the jap-********* couple we met. It was the next fav of mine after the time spent in nara visitor center. That was truly magickal n how I wished we stayed longer there. But all was good cause the way I planned this trip made it so that we would have this fateful encounter to the end of our trip.

CCEL_LI was about to give bad reviews due to some poor check-in experience, but everything after check in is so good that compensates this journey. First, the check-in process that brings me with bad experience: it is self-served and there is no any staff. By rights you should receive an instruction email with check-in PIN in advance, which I heard from other guests. However, I didn’t receive anything but Trip’s confirmation letter and I was unable to check in. And my sim card in Japan is just an internet card unable to make phone calls, which means I have no way to contact the hotel directly. My partner and I were desperately locked out of the hotel in the evening, after 7h hiking, with no other available hotel in the mountain. After waiting for over 1 hour, other guests helped us to enter the admin room where there is an ipad to call the hotel (why not make it available to guests without checking in?), and with the help of Trip’s agency, we finally checked in successfully. Then here is the staying experience: so good that makes me almost forgive the poor check-in experience. Each room is a spacious individual house and ours has a garden for BBQ. The food is also self-served, with the cooking stuffs and ingredients in the fridge. It was unexpected that you need to cook yourself (I don’t think it was listed on room info when I booked it), but it’s not bad that Wagyu, chicken, and vegetables are served. The rooms are big and cozy, and you can do the laundry after hiking. Everything is good about the hotel itself, just be aware of the self-checkin process and make sure you get the instructions before that.

GGeraldLim1Beautiful Ryokan! The room I stayed in had tatami floors and western beds. The doors slide instead of open outwards like they usually do. Toilets are relatively small, but the shower had great water pressure and temperature! However we did not shower much because.. We showered at the Onsen instead since we were there to spend time! The Onsen is tattoo-friendly as confirmed by the check in staff, and the water really had skin smoothing effects. Yukatas are available at lobby area for all guests, and level two has a restaurant with microwave and ice machine outside for your konbini meals. No view from the room, but that's fine cos the Onsen itself was worth a visit. Steep short hill up to the lobby, but if you drive then that's fine. Free to use outdoor BBQ area, but didn't have the chance to. Rooms were comfy, sleep was good with minimal disturbance. Side note: my underwear got stolen at the onsen and I never managed to find it back again but that's fine cos it was worth the Onsen experience. Stayed two nights here, no regrets, would totally do it again! Oh and Onsen area has got numbered lockers to store your belongings but not your undies!

GGuest UserThe price-performance ratio is really high, including two breakfasts and two nights, the average price is 1500 yuan per person. The hotel is very old, and you have to go through three short tunnels. The third tunnel is darker, and the other two are brighter. It takes 18 minutes to walk from the train station. The hotel has a car that can take you to the train station in the morning. The hotel sink is really low, probably because it is an old hotel. It is the first time I have seen such a restaurant. You need to turn on the heating and air conditioning in the evening of early April, because the sea is visible when you open the window. It is very cold at night. The Shirahama bus can use IC cards.

GGuest UserPros: The hotel is conveniently located, about a 500-600 meter walk from the station. It boasts a beautiful seaside setting, though it's on an embankment rather than a sandy beach. You can walk along the embankment to Benten Island. The hotel was very clean and offered good value for money. Cons: For a Japanese-style hotel, I was surprised there were no welcome refreshments – a first in my experience. The staff seemed a bit indifferent. Breakfast and dinner were merely 'okay.' The onsen facilities were quite simple, with two pools for each gender: one indoor and one open-air. However, the outdoor bath in the women's section was essentially just a large bathtub.
