Granbell was a great hotel which is proven to be a very popular spot of tourists from several countries, mainly Russia, Germany, France, UK, Australia, China, Korea, and Japan. The hotel itself had great amenities, view, and food. I would definitely recommend friends to this hotel to friends and family. Hotel ammenities itself were amazing overall. The rooftop bar, spa, gym, pool, and others were all of great quality.
The location of the hotel was well placed in the city but the immediate surroundings of the hotel were mostly rundown buildings and a loud train stop. It is hard to say that the location was good to walk around but with tuk tuks easily available things were fine during our trip.
Areas of improvement and negative aspects are that our room did not have a cupboard or iron which made things a bit difficult and we suspected the bathroom sink to have a minor leak which made the whole bathroom floor wet but was hard to tell. Lastly, all the staff were very nice and helpful except for the concierge team. I can’t say all but most were not helpful as they never opened the door for me, refused to help me translate to an uber and tuk driver when I needed help, and generally seemed uninterested to help guests unless really required to. It was more a minor nuisance so I didn’t make any fuss about it.
All things considered we were mostly happy with the hotel.
The hotel is situated quite close to the airport. The driver patiently waited to pick us up after our flight was delayed 4 times. The room was huge and the toilet was so big too. To bad due to our flight delay we only manage to spend few hours. Otherwise the place was in a big garden with a pool.
Beware of mosquitoes.
Breakfast is not buffet but basic menu by request.
Stayed for 4 nights as i had a wedding to attend.
It was my first time visiting Colombo City so went in with lots of excitement in general.
Got to hotel pretty late, but was welcomed by a very friendly doorman who took all my bags.
Check in was smooth.
Room is very clean, modern, full A/C, it's all well done.
I had a nice view to the city and the ocean.
I used the gym, it's decent, has everything you need to keep yourself fit during your stay.
There are loads food places, like western to asian food all near by.
50m away from a big supermarket if you need to grab anything.
It's about 20,25 mins away from Red Mosque on Tuktuk.
I'd stay here again for sure.
I recently stayed at Amari Colombo in Colombo, and overall I had a wonderful experience.
I was especially impressed with Nishel. Despite his young age, he was extremely professional, respectful, and attentive to our needs. He immediately helped us find the most suitable room for our stay and handled everything efficiently. Upekha was also very helpful and kind throughout our visit, always ready to assist with a smile.
The only negative point was the early check-in policy. We arrived around 5:00 a.m. and were asked to pay an additional $150, which felt quite expensive and significantly higher than the average nightly rate listed on various booking platforms.
Other than that, everything was excellent. The view was stunning, the rooms were spotless, and the breakfast was rich and delicious, offering many options from both local and international cuisine.
I would definitely choose to stay here again. Thank you for the warm hospitality!
The only downside was the bathroom, which looked nothing like the pictures on Trip.com (no bathtub or shower stall, not even a shower curtain, though it was clean, the facilities were too basic). However, the breakfast spread was excellent, and the views were superb. I found the location more relaxing and comfortable than the more central areas. The rooftop pool was a good size and beautiful. Overall, it was still quite good.
Visited Colombo during off-peak season so we managed to visit the city with less crowd. Views from any sea-facing room is incredible for its price - slight blocking with 2 towers in front but you can get a better unblocked view if you go for Premium tier rooms. I have to commend reception staff Anjala, who managed upsell me a Premium Seaview Room from a Superior Seaview Room. He took the time to explain the differences between each tier, accommodated to my budget constraints, and brought me to each room (empty ones of course) for a viewing before committing to an upgrade. After hearing that I was there on honeymoon (my husband would only arrive later), he relayed that to the rest of the team who took care of us wonderfully throughout our 4-day stay. Overall, room is clean and roomy, perfect for business calls with fast and reliable in-room wifi. Only downside is their TV doesn't have Netflix or Airplay, only Miracast for Android/Windows users. Tip for travellers: tell your driver this used to be Movenpick hotel - they will know where to drop you off.

Great location, very convenient for getting around. Good value for money, perfect for an overnight stay. Breakfast was okay, and there's a Thai restaurant called Nara right across the street – a nice change if you're tired of Sri Lankan food and Western cuisine.
They’re good, and their service is also good. But their online response is very bad. I didn't get any response to when I texted and called them, as I had some queries.
But their hospitality is very good.
And food is also tasty.
Our family of three checked into the hotel during the first week of May 2025. Unfortunately, our overall experience was underwhelming. Room service was disappointing, our order was incorrect, and we chose not to send it back as we assumed it would take a long time to receive the correct one. It also took three separate calls just to receive the room service menu.
Additionally, we were charged for ice despite having an active room service food bill, which felt unreasonable. When we inquired about evening entertainment (Friday eve), the front desk assured us a live band would be performing, but this never happened.
It appeared the resort seems to operate with minimal staff, which may explain the drop in service quality. On a positive note, we were warmly welcomed by a great host at check-in, and the barman at the pool bar made excellent cocktails and provided friendly service. Hopefully, this could be just a rare slip-up.
I chose this hotel because I had a night flight.
I was worried that it was a new hotel and not listed on Google Maps, but I managed to get there.
I didn't know what to do when I arrived at the hotel at night, so my taxi driver contacted them.
The owner was very kind! ︎The room was clean, and the garden was cleaned in the morning! ︎

GGuest UserThis hotel is in Wattala which is only 7km from the Fort train station but feels ages away.
Service - excellent. As in all areas of Sri Lanka the staff are very friendly and helpful. All say hello and genuinely seem to enjoy their jobs. There seems to be an army of cleaners and wait staff and again, all are friendly with very good English. The doorman was my favourite with a massive smile and great personality!
There were some issues with the half-board deal I was on regarding when and where you can have the half board - which is only breakfast and dinner although on Trip it reads like you have a choice of when you can have your two meals a day. So just clarify when you arrive to be sure.
Facilities - big open ground, big swimming pool which you could do laps in if you wanted but also with decent steps on the side so younger children can play. There is also a small children's pool too which is adjacent to the big pool and next to the sun bathing area which has around 10 sun chairs in pairs with an umbrella and small table around the grass area, with more chairs and beanbags set up on the higher area.
I have seen big groups playing team games, cricket, football, some weird waterpolo/volleyball/handball game in the pool and even a few keen cricket players today.
Restaurant - the floor level open air restaurant is well staffed, nicely proportioned and the buffet breakfast, lunch or dinner is extensive (if a little repetitive after three days). On some occasions there was live music which was nice and not overpowering, playing mainly English music.
Bar - The Fishery is the outdoor restaurant for al e carte food service and some drinks. You can choose to sit under the roof bar area or under trees next to it, on big picnic style seating.
Gym - this is located next to the pool/restaurant and although it is a bit tired, it has everything you need. The running machines are a bit clunky but at least they work, the weight machines are a little stiff to move but again they are functional. There are free weights and area to work out - even a small space for yoga or stretching if thats your thing. There is also air conditioning - and in 30+ heat, very much needed!
Downside - its a bit hard to get to and you have to take a taxi or tuk tuk (don't pay anything over 5,000 for this!). The beach which you can see and hear, is very close but not suitable for swimming - especially for young children. Also the beach isn't particularly clean - outside the hotel the beach is raked for appearances, but walk 50m to your left or right, and its not too pretty!
Not really a downside but be aware that if you are here in weekend, this place seems to host a lot of parties, weddings and events - which is great energy with lots of noise and atmosphere. It is a lot quieter in the week days. And the pool becomes full in the afternoons!!!
TtoranekoThis hotel is conveniently located for sightseeing in Colombo. You can see the sea from the room and walk to watch the trains run along the coast.
There was no hairdryer, so I called the front desk to have one brought up, but they gave me one that seemed to be for wall mounting, which was a bit inconvenient. Also, there was no refrigerator.
GGuest UserOur group booked three rooms, and I was in one by myself. After checking in, I found myself in a very shabbily decorated triple room. I left my luggage in the room and went to the front desk to sort it out. When I asked why I, as a single guest, was given a family room, all the staff at the front desk were laughing, as if they knew they had given me the wrong room. I originally wanted a sea view room, but they ended up upgrading me to an executive floor room. I also asked them to send my luggage to the new room. It seems like many Chinese tourists don't speak good English, and hotel staff are used to taking advantage of that. But they met someone like me who insists on their rights this time. So, when you travel abroad, don't settle; always stand up for your rights.
RRajaratnam ChitranganAmazing location and friendly staff and clean rooms. Will be a added bonus if we can have Jaffna food Available all day from lunch time till midnight. Great experianca. Well done
GGuest UserHotel is in the heart of Colombo and very prominent location in Sri Lanka. I love the garden view. Food is excellent choices. Staff everyone is very courteous and well organise and presentable. All staff are consistently helpful. Special thanks to the restaurant staff Kamani ,Randil and Imesh. I will definitely comeback to this hotel when my next visit. My appreciation to all staff members during my stay.

YYong chia chiThe hotel delivers well on core fundamentals. The room was clean, well-maintained, and notably spacious, which made the stay comfortable and practical.
Check-in at reception took longer than expected, which slightly impacted the arrival experience. That said, staff were professional once the process moved forward.
A major plus is the on-site casino located within the same building, offering convenient entertainment options without needing to travel elsewhere.
Breakfast was acceptable overall. It met basic expectations but did not stand out in terms of variety or quality.
CCJ12A beautiful building in a very pleasant area of Colombo; the architecture and interior design of the hotel are a joy to behold and the vast majority of staff are polite and courteous. Plenty of amenities nearby to suit all tastes and interests. The breakfasts were great both mornings (both the Sri Lankan breakfast and the Western style), and they really lived up to the high expectations we’d had from the Instagram marketing we’d seen.
We were upgraded to the North West Suite, which was a larger room, for which we were greatly appreciative; a couple of issues with working plugs and appliances (coffee machine and hair dryer) were reported and rectified, although the wiring/plugs more broadly were temperamental and poorly placed (as expected, possibly, with the charm of an older hotel). However, the bed was comfortable, the hotel was quiet, and the bathroom was well appointed.
Our only qualm was with the overzealous Head of Housekeeping, who seemed to not grasp the subtlety required for such a role, or the privacy with which guests might like to enjoy the beautiful hotel. It appeared that he lingered all too often in search of a tip, and didn’t quite appreciate the boundaries one might desire when paying a reasonable fee for each night. My wife and I took to speedily locking the door and placing the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the handle to keep his incessant interrupting to a minimum. His deputy was, however, an asset to the hotel, who seemed to comprehend the subtle art of providing high quality service for a luxury stay in a lovely hotel.
All-in-all, a great choice for a hotel in the heart of Colombo, and hopefully, during a busier season, the aforementioned Head of Housekeeping might spread his overbearing attention across the many rooms of the hotel.
OOlga’TA magnificent hotel, with delicious and varied breakfasts and beautiful, spacious rooms.
Daily cleaning, shampoo, lotions, and a full toiletries kit.
You can also exchange dollars; I highly recommend it.
However, during my stay, I wasn't offered a spa treatment even once, and there was no information at reception.
