Experience an exhilarating day of adventure in Wharfedale with the Above and Below the Dales - Ghyll Scramble & Caving trip. Located in the upper part of Wharfedale, within the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park, this trip offers two thrilling locations to explore. Your day will begin in Hubberholme, near Buckden, where you will meet your experienced instructor. They will provide all the necessary equipment for the Strans Gill scramble, a fantastic ascent up a scenic limestone gorge. The climb is filled with short, enjoyable climbs and breathtaking limestone scenery. Once you reach the top, you'll be rewarded with magnificent views of the surrounding Dales as you return to the cars for a well-deserved lunch break (lunch not included). After lunch, the adventure continues as you drive a short distance to Dow Cave near Kettlewell. This incredible cave boasts a large main streamway and fascinating formations and fossils. Explore the wild beauty of the Yorkshire Dales as you navigate through this stunning cave. All necessary equipment, including helmets, harnesses, oversuits, and lights, will be provided. Trainers or walking boots with good grip are suitable for the ghyll scramble. Please note that the weather in the Yorkshire Dales can be unpredictable. In the event of adverse weather conditions, the trip may be relocated to an alternative venue. The minimum age for participation is 8 years old, and the maximum group size is 8 people. Our Ultimate Caving trips bring the aspiring explorer on a very special journey indeed, deep beneath the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Awesome underground streamways, waterfalls, airy traverses, climbs and vertical drops.....you'll encounter everything on this caving trip!!! Meeting at our premises near Stainforth, your instructor will get you kitted out in all the required equipment before departing for the caves. The caving trip will last much of the day, and whereas our Adventure Caving session tackles one vertical section (called a pitch), the Ultimate Caving trip will descend much deeper into the cave system, taking on several vertical sections and giving a real sense of what 'Potholing' is, within the finest region in the UK for vertical caving! At one of our venues, you will visit 'The Bridge' - a huge boulder wedged across the spectacular, 60m deep, Alum Pot main shaft, after an impressive journey in via the Long Churn Caves. At another venue called Sell Gill Holes, three pitches up to 14m deep lead to a huge underground cavern with 40m waterfall crashing in! For some more advanced venues, the day might start with a quick course in abseiling in our very own purpose built vertical caving training facility (see photo below)! Ideally you would have tried caving before (and so know you love it!), but its not essential.....all you need to be is fit, up for a challenge, and with a good head for heights! More information will be provided following booking, including directions, kit lists, more information about the day and medical forms. Have an explorers spirit? Want a true adventure in a safe and stunning underworld? Then ‘explore caving’ is perfect for you and all the family. Join us on a journey through a spectacular underground world, and let us guide you along and through stunning streamways and quiet chambers, admire ancient formations and fossils, and tackle waterfalls, cascades and simple climbs all as part of the fun, with some 'optional' crawling and other fun challenges too! We supply all the kit required for this amazing and unique experience including caving oversuit, helmet and light, belt and wellies. The day will begin by meeting at our outdoor activity barn near Stainforth at 10am. Here you will be briefed by your highly experienced instructor about the day and then kitted out with all the required caving equipment before following the instructor in your car to the parking location for the caves. It will then be a short walk of around 10-25mins to the caves, depending on venue and you should expect a caving trip in the region of 1.5-2 hrs duration. We run our courses and events even if only one person books so you can be confident with your booking.
