BEYOND THE PROMPT is Fornies' direct response to Generative AI use in art, through a series of oil on wood paintings. In contrast to AI's rapid image generation, Jordi adopted a deliberate approach, mediating between AI-prompted visuals and his own tangible paintings. His compositions, unlike their digital counterparts, were driven by human emotion, artistic intuition, and aesthetic discernment, resulting in a slower, more contemplative process. Meet the artist to understand his development process for this series, and the role of Generative Artificial Intelligence in his practice. Fornies will take us through his journey and how it evolves from previous series to this series, as well as where he is heading for future series. Curated by Khai Hori, Director & Partner, Chan + Hori Contemporary, Singapore About artist, Jordi Fornies Jordi Forniés, born in 1971, Huesca, Spain, is an artist and musician renowned for his painting, sculpture, and music composition. Besides working in a senior position in the technology industry, he holds a PhD in Chemistry, three Master’s degrees in Fine Arts, a Master’s in Marketing and Communication and a classical piano degree. Influenced by Antoni Tàpies and Joan Miró, his work explores themes of time, memory, and nature. Forniés has exhibited at the Venice Biennale and World Expo Dubai, and his art is in prestigious collections like Patrimonio Historico Nacional. Signed with Decca Records US, he integrates music into his art, with a keen interest in AI’s role in creativity. Fornies has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in many countries outside Singapore. His works are with numerous private and institutional collections worldwide.

We Thought We Knew Collectively Where We Were Going is an artistic research project under the National Library Creative Residency about the relationship between happiness and the prevailing economic system at different points of time. Diving into individual, family and social narratives about happiness, the project hopes to investigate how they influence the values and sense of happiness for people from three different generations. In this session, creators Han Xuemei, Myra Loke and Tan Wei Ting share their discoveries of how different generations relate to happiness through a work-in-progress installation and a dialogue session. This work-in-progress sharing is a free programme. The capacity is limited at 10 pax. Please register with consideration, and inform the organizer if you are unable to turn up a day before.The venue has no lift and requires climbing of steps.Removal of shoes will be required before entering the space.Myra Loke is a director, puppeteer, designer and educator. She is part of the core team of The Finger Players, one of Singapore’s leading theatre companies, specialising in puppetry. Myra led the company as co-Artistic Director from 2020 to 2023. Myra also co-founded The Wanderlings, engaging the neurodiverse community, from ages 0 and up. Tan Wei Ting is a filmmaker and theatre practitioner. Her debut short film “CA$H” was in competition at the 41st Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. Her latest short “Love at Fifty” crossed half a million views on Our Grandfather Story. She was from the pioneer batch of ARTivate. Han Xuemei is a theatre director, facilitator, educator, designer and Co-Artistic Director of theatre company Drama Box. She believes that theatre can inspire growth and creates works that engage audiences from all walks of life. Notable projects include Re: Assembly, FLOWERS, MISSING, IgnorLAND. She received the NAC Young Artist Award in 2021.

About the programme There are many opportunities in our living environment that can be improved to prevent accidents and make it more inclusive for the elderly and children. The objective of this workshop is to identify opportunities for improvement and suggest actionable solutions. Human Factors & Ergonomics Society of Singapore (HFESS) will share its experiences in identifying issues and making improvements to living environments. During the workshop, HFESS will lead the participants outside the library premises to provide hands-on experience. Upon returning, participants will engage in a collaborative session to discuss their findings and brainstorm innovative design solutions to address these challenges effectively. About the speaker KC is the President of the Human Factor & Ergonomics Society of Singapore (HFESS). His aspiration is to build a strong team to expand the reach and relevance of Human Factors & Ergonomics, ultimately driving human progress.
KC Yong is also the User Experience Leader in Dell Singapore, specializing in Human Factors & Ergonomics, Usability, Behavior Research, Interaction Design and User Interface Design. His expertise lies in uncovering users’ tacit needs and aligning them with the business strategies. Prior to his tenure at Dell, he worked at Creative Technology and DSO National Laboratories. His passion for design has led to numerous prestigious awards, including the Singapore President's Design Award, International Design Excellence Award and Red Dot Design Award. Additionally, KC is an Adjunct Lecturer at Singapore University of Social Science (SUSS). He teaches the undergraduate course “User-Centered - Human Factors & Design Thinking” and the graduate course “User Experience Design”.
