The Hoi An Full Moon Lantern Festival takes place on November 3 and December 3, 2025, and on January 2, February 1, March 2, April 1, May 30, June 28, July 27, August 26, September 24, October 23, November 22, and December 22, 2026. Hoi An's Full Moon Lantern Festival takes place on the 14th day of the first lunar month each year, transforming the UNESCO World Heritage-listed ancient city into a river of lights. In Buddhist tradition, the full moon is considered an ideal time for meditation, reflection, rituals, and ancestral worship. At sunset, the city's electric lights go out, and the streets are almost entirely illuminated by silk lanterns hung from balconies and in alleyways. Vendors set up stalls along the Thu Bon River, selling paper lanterns with small candles. Locals and tourists alike place these lanterns on the river to pray for good luck, health, or happiness.

Hùng Kings' Temple Festival | Ho Chi Minh City

Hùng Kings' Temple Festival | Ho Chi Minh City

Apr 17–Apr 26, 2026 (UTC+7)
Ho Chi Minh City
Celebration
The Hung Kings Festival is held annually on the 10th day of the third lunar month. In 2026, the main festival falls on April 18th. For many Vietnamese families, this day is more than just a festival; it's a time to slow down, reflect on the nation's origins, and commemorate Vietnam's early rulers. This tradition has been passed down through generations and still holds a special place in Vietnamese national identity. The Hung Kings Festival consists of two main parts: formal sacrificial ceremonies and cultural activities. In the days leading up to the festival, nearby villages hold various folk performances and traditional games, and people prepare offerings. This period is bustling with activity, offering many tourists a wonderful opportunity to experience local life firsthand. The sacrificial ceremonies begin with a solemn procession carrying offerings of sticky rice, fruit, and "three animals" (pig, sheep, and cow). Two traditional cakes play a central role in the ceremony. Their shapes symbolize heaven and earth, reflecting the importance of nature in an agricultural society. Tourists light incense and candles, pray devoutly, and participate in various rituals, expressing gratitude for peace and a bountiful harvest. The atmosphere at the mountaintop is often serene and peaceful, a stark contrast to the lively celebrations below.
