Led by Principal Instructor Johnny Allen, the course will be held at Cheddar Reservoir in Axbridge, Somerset. Throughout the course, participants will follow the RYA Start Sailing and Basic Skills syllabus, with the aim of developing confidence and competence in sailing without any instruction. A minimum of 32 hours is required to complete the course, with a maximum student to instructor ratio of 1:6. All necessary equipment, including wetsuits, buoyancy aids, and spray jackets, will be provided. Participants only need to bring shoes that can get wet and a towel. The club offers lockable changing rooms and hot showers for convenience. The cost of the five-day course is £550, which includes BCYC membership up until renewal on March 1, 2025. Joining BCYC also allows members to hire club boats and requires a commitment to support the club on designated Corinthian days throughout the year. An additional fee of £20 will be charged for a gate key deposit, and the membership can be upgraded to a family membership for an extra fee.
