The Analogue Photography Weekend is a 2-day workshop designed specifically for beginner photographers interested in shooting and developing black and white film. This comprehensive workshop, held over 2 consecutive Saturdays, will guide participants through the entire process, from capturing images to developing them in the darkroom. Led by the experienced and talented tutor Rachel Brewster Wright, founder of Little Vintage Photography, this workshop guarantees a fun and relaxed learning experience.
On the first day, participants will embark on a captivating photo walk through Liverpool's beautiful and historic business quarter. During this walk, the focus will be on exposure, composition, and metering. Following the walk, participants will learn to mix chemistry and process their film. The day will conclude with drying and cutting negatives, as well as viewing images using a lightbox and phone app inversion. A brief outline of the second day, which will be dedicated to the darkroom, will also be provided.
The second day of the workshop will begin with an introduction to the room and materials, along with a thorough explanation of health and safety guidelines. Participants will then explore different formats and learn how to set up the enlarger. The day will continue with hands-on activities, including making contact prints, creating test strips, and producing the first print. Participants will also learn about using filters, dodging, and burning techniques. The workshop will conclude with participants creating their final prints.
The Analogue Photography Weekend will take place on Saturday, April 27th, and Saturday, May 4th, from 10 am to 5 pm at the dot-art Darkroom located in The Cotton Exchange Building on Bixteth Street, Liverpool.
