Rhyme and Song with Paul McLaney | 11 Faulkner Road
Dec 15, 2024 (UTC+12)ENDED
Auckland
Join us for a glass of wine, a light snack and an afternoon of rhyme and song as Paul performs verse from Bookshop Prayers and songs from his back catalogue. The afternoon will be completely acoustic exposition, such as has been shared throughout the ages. A mixture of poems and songs, some new, some old, perhaps even a few borrowed ones and a chance for us all to consider our shared experiences while creating a new one. Delivered with Paul’s trademark talent and class, his new book, 'Bookshop Prayers' is an exquisitely produced collection of verse for all ages. Featuring rhymes of cheer and good intent for everyday use. 'In this age of online communities; the vast lonely togetherness that the Internet enables I wanted to relocate what it is I do into the most intimate of venues, the living room. Even the name is overlooked by its familiarity. It is literally the room where life happens. Where like minded souls, friends and family can congregate to share in contemplation, expressions of empathy. The thoughts that combine us rather than divide us from this human endeavour. Mine are simple poems and songs but I find they are the best way to explore the biggest thoughts; thoughts of living'. ABOUT PAUL MCLANEY Paul McLaney is a long-standing contributor to the musical landscape as both a recording artist of over twenty album releases in his own name and as part of the band Gramsci. Added to this are his collaborations with a wide group of musicians including Anika Moa, SJD, Breaks Co-op, Julia Deans, Fly My Pretties, Jeff Boyle (Jakob), Eden Mulholland and Rhian Sheehan. He is also a composer of theatre and dance scores, Director of Music and composer for The Pop-Up Globe; as well as been the Musical Supervisor for WOW: The World of Wearable Art, responsible for the commissioning of new work and facilitating music licensing requirements.
