Welcome to MS Amy's Kid’s art class! This class is for ages 5-11 years old. It is meant to be a fun and creative experience where children can explore their artistic talents. All materials are supplied, instruction included, and projects are planned for all abilities. The event will take place at Cherry Street Pier in Philadelphia, PA, USA. The kid's classes are every 1st and 3rd Tuesday 5-6:30pm and every 1st and 3rd Saturday 11-12:30pm in studio 13. Cherry street pier is a very family friendly location. There are Food trucks, a full bar, and artist studios. There is a large open area that hosts craft shows, concerts, and movies plus 2 galleries. This year’s OSU Zacher Lecture in the Humanities will feature Merve Emre, writer for The New Yorker, The Atlantic and more. She’ll discuss “miniaturism,” also known as flash fiction or the short-short story. This emerges as an aesthetic strategy for focusing on the disciplined study of grammar over figuration. In this genre, grammar often is inseparable from gender, and gender is inseparable from forms of literary labor that are regularly trivialized, devalued and rendered invisible. Through the promotion of too close reading, or reading at the smallest scale possible, miniaturism reveals the unappreciated relationship between literary asceticism and literary pleasure. This event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow. Limited parking is available at the Faculty Club- come inside and pick up a pass from the front desk.
