The man with the funny haircut seems to take up most of the oxygen in the Elizabethan room, but what about other playwrights of the period? What about Thomas Kyd and his Spanish Tragedy? What about Kit Marlowe and his Tamburlaine? Or Ben Jonson, Will’s supposed pal? And the others? Kim Keeline will provide a survey of these contemporaries and consider any of their influence on the familiar canon. Kim Keeline has a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Southern California. She has taught multiple courses at USC, as well as at Southwestern College, MiraCosta College, and Central Texas College. She has been a frequent speaker at academic conferences and has received several prestigious awards for her work. Information Source: San Diego Shakespeare Society | eventbrite

On Saturday, February 15, 2025, San Diego will experience heartbreak in a grotesquely beautiful apocalypse - the return of the Tortured Hearts Ball! Reimagined as an otherworldly deviation from the original event in 2010, when it debuted as an underground warehouse event, this sequel will be a mesmerizing twist, set in a series of hotel ballrooms, and elevating itself from the first, as desire reunites with despair. You're invite to this celebration of the bizarre and exotic at our ode to the bitter and the lonely, the bound and the broken, at a dark masquerade almost too bold for San Diego. Expect two DJ dance spaces with a variety of melodies, a ballroom dance hall, specialty vendors, a karaoke salon, a hidden speakeasy, side quests, a gaming den, a performance room, and more secrets to be revealed soon! Be engrossed in our demented world inspired by your most beautiful nightmares. Have a front row seat to peculiar and uncommon entertainment and performances.
