This NRA Certified Course teaches students the knowledge, skills and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home. Personal Protection Inside the Home is a required prerequisite for this course. The NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home offers the essential knowledge and skills that must be mastered in order to carry, store, and use a firearm safely and effectively for personal protection outside the home. After the classroom portion, students will spend time on the range and shoot approximately 100 rounds. The ammunition requirements are minimum and may be exceeded. The NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside the Home is for adults who are not disqualified from possessing a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law and are of good repute and possess the defensive pistol skills as presented in the NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home Course. Participants must also understand the basic legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in self-defense and must know and observe not only general gun safety rules but also those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations. Equipment needed for this course: Any centerfire handgun in good operating condition that is suitable for self-defense and fires non-magnum ammunition.A good quality strong side hip holster is a requirement for this class. No inside waistband holsters.A good quality magazine carrier for 2 extra magazines.A sturdy belt to hold the holster and magazine carrier in place.Two extra magazines (semi-automatics) or speed loaders (revolvers). A total of at least 3 magazines.Approximately 150 rounds of ammunition.A minimum of three students is required for this course.

This NRA Certified Course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for the protection of self and family inside the home, and provides information on the law-abiding individual's right to self-defense. During this course, students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, defensive pistol ammunition types, safe storage of firearms in the home, strategies for home safety and home defense preparation, responding to violent confrontations, and home invasion prevention techniques. You should bring your primary defensive firearm (no shotguns or rifles) and at least 150 rounds of good quality factory target ammunition for that firearm. Please limit firearm and ammunition choices to between .22 caliber and .45 caliber. Also, bring two (2) or more magazines or speed loaders for that firearm to be used for the live-fire exercise on the range. A good quality strong-side hip holster is a requirement for this class. No inside waistband holsters. All firearms should be unloaded and cased. All firearms must be inspected by the Instructor prior to use on the range and the Instructor reserves the right to reject any firearm that is determined to be unsafe for use. There are three major components to the course: a classroom component, a written examination, and a live-fire handgun range component. To successfully complete the course, students must attend the classroom portion, complete a short written examination based on the lesson material, and successfully qualify during the live-fire portion of the course. This course is held on a Saturday and runs from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The cost for the course is $149.00. We need a minimum of three students to conduct the course.

The goal of the course is to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry and use a concealed firearm ethically, responsibly, and with confidence. As a result of participating in this course, the student will be able to explain and demonstrate the following: How to apply the NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling when carrying a concealed handgun, basic principles of concealment, the difference between cover and concealment, drawing from the holster, levels of mental awareness, developing the proper mindset when using a handgun for personal protection, clearing common stoppages, use of pocket pistols, and more. This is an NRA Certified eight (8) hour course designed to develop the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for the identification and safe handling and storage of firearms. Course topics include: gun safety rules, ammunition knowledge and selection, firearm selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, firearm inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, two-handed shooting positions, and shooting range safety. Students will complete live fire training as well as a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor.
