Charlotte Lorimer is a writer and editor. She previously curated the exhibition Reflections: The Light and Life of John Henry Lorimer. Robert Lorimer, the artist's brother and a renowned architest was her great grandfather. This afternoon talk will be limited in number to allow access to areas of the castle where John Henry spent his time painting as well as a closer look at his works of art on display both around the rooms and in the gallery here at Kellie Castle. A very special screening of this beautiful film about a young boy growing up in a fishing village in the 1940s, based on Christopher Rush’s semi-autobiographical novel. The novel was set in St Monans and the film was shot in Orkney. After the screening we will be joined by Rush (Writer), Ian Sellar (Director, Writer) and Chris Young (Producer) for a Q&A. The film will start at 6.45pm and runs for 94 minutes. There will be a 45 minute Q&A afterwards. Tickets are £6 for over 18s and £3 for under 18s. The film is certificate 12; under 16s should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There will be hot drinks by donation and a pay bar. Please note that seating is unreserved. In this exciting collaboration, you will join Mark, Edinburgh Sketcher, as he shares the techniques he has developed over a decade of sketching around Edinburgh. He will highlight details of architecture and nature to ignite your creativity into fabulous sketches you can take home. Each class will touch on perspectives, depth and composition as you go through 10 minute exercises to relax your hand to 30 minute vistas whilst immersing yourself in the beauty and historic environment of Kellie Castle. The 3 hour sessions are £45 per person including light refreshments after the session. All materials needed for the day are provided. Perfect for all levels from beginners to those who would like to learn more about about Mark's speed-sketching style, or to practice sketching outdoors with ink and watercolour. Children aged 8 and above are welcome to although children aged 8 - 15 must be accompanied by a ticket holding adult. This is a walking and sketching tour so do check the forecast and come dressed for the Scottish weather! An indoor option will be available should the weather be particularly bad.
