4-Star Hotels in Shanxi, China

Location: near LinFenXi High Speed Rail Station 临汾西站(10mins drive/ 20mins by local public transport to LuoGuQiaoTou 锣鼓桥头站). Best is that they provide pick-up and drop-off at HSR station, just make a call 3 hours in advance. I dont have local number, so I email them in advance before my trip, they replied my email and provide me their WeChat number so I can make reservation for the pick-up service at the station. Many local tours have pick-up and drop-off service near the hotel (junction outside the hotel), easy and convenient. Services: warm and welcoming services. Tea and drinks in the lobby, luggage storage as well. Room: clean big room, big screen TV, mini bar fridge, bathrobe and comfy king bed. Lavender shower shampoo, hand soap and body lotion, make me feel so so much relax. Laundry: laundry machine are free of charge (washer and dryer). Laundry room provide ironing equipment, books, drink as well. Definitely not get bored. Otherwise, can use phone connect their website to make a reminder while the laundry have done (so convenient). Gym Room: just opposite and same level of laundry room. Treadmill are so new. Breakfast: varieties of choice. Before that I already crave for coffee since it is not so common to find espresso in the local breakfast restaurant. Salad bar, local meatball soup, noodles, dumplings, wantons, boiled egg, fried egg, fried tomato with egg and local cooked food. So many choice and so satisfying. However they dont have egg omelette, it is fine for me. I found that even though not staying at LinFen city centre, it is still fine to stay here as the traffic here is convenient. And here is more quiet and more relax👍 The only thing I dont like is, some customer smoking in the lift and hotel lobby (even though there is a sign in the lift to advice not to smoke), definitely affecting those unlike smoking smell and sick of cigarette smell like me.

The hotel's location is great, and the room was clean, spacious, and well-soundproofed. The front desk staff were very welcoming and the breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of options. This will definitely be my top choice next time I'm in Taiyuan, highly recommended!

We truly enjoyed our stay at this property, which is conveniently located in the heart of Pingyao, right next to the entrance to the walking streets. The staff was extremely kind and even allowed us an early check-in. The round-trip transfer from the train station was also very convenient and perfectly on time. We chose a tatami room and were not disappointed. The mattress was comfortable, and there was even a tea table and plenty of bottled water. They also gave us a small gift when we checked out, which was a lovely touch. We would definitely stay here again! One small suggestion for improvement would be allowing the TV language to be changed to English and perhaps installing a chrome cast/apple tv on the TV so international guests could mirror their phones.

I've been to Xinzhou Ancient City a few times, and I genuinely feel that Futian Yuhua Hotel is the absolute best hotel here. The rooms are spotless, they deliver fresh fruit daily, and the beds are incredibly comfortable. The private hot spring bath experience was fantastic, and there was a constant supply of complimentary drinks every day. From the moment you step through the main entrance, you notice the incredible attention to detail – it's clear the owner has excellent taste. From the moment I called about parking, a butler was already waiting at the entrance. The service was warm and thoughtful. When leaving, they even reminded me to take a complimentary bottle of water and offered tissues, showing how much they genuinely care for their guests. On the day of check-in, I couldn't figure out the stopper for the hot spring pool, but after a quick call, someone came to help within less than a minute. I'll definitely be bringing my family back to stay here again in the future and will highly recommend it to my friends.

I decided to visit Datong during the off-season and booked a Hilton Garden Inn. The location was quite convenient (not in the old town area), and not far from the airport. There were also various small shops and pharmacies nearby. The room was clean and tidy, with no unpleasant odors. The heating was excellent, making it very warm. The service was also very attentive and considerate; they asked if I needed help sharing a bed. The breakfast selection was quite extensive, and there were plenty of spacious seats. Highly recommend staying here!

Our group of four went to the Shanxi First Hot Spring Hotel, thinking it would be conveniently located within the Wang Family Courtyard. We ended up loving it! The hotel environment was superb! 👍🏻 Getting up early to climb the city wall and see the swirling mist was like stepping into a fairyland. The air was fresh, the hot spring water smooth, and the night view even more beautiful! Dinner was delicious, and breakfast was plentiful! Everyone is planning to come back! The manager, Xiao Wang, and my husband hit it off immediately, and he even gave us souvenir coins!

Facilities: Since it's a new hotel, everything feels fresh. It has electric curtains and smart toilets, and the lobby is impressive. Overall, it feels like a 4.5-star hotel. One thing to note is that there's no rainfall showerhead. Cleanliness: Everything was very clean; I didn't notice any issues. Environment: It's just a short taxi ride from the old town, very convenient. The breakfast selection isn't huge, but it's quite tasty.

The Yunzhong Chaoran Pavilion was newly renovated just prior to our stay in January 2026. The whole building is spotless, beautifully decorated, and comfortable. The staff make an effort to understand you, and are adept at using translation apps when conversation breaks down. They have a “Xiao Du” feature , similar to the American “Alexa”, where you can ask it to turn lights off and on, as well as to open and close the curtains . The receptionist patiently helped me to learn how to use it - and frankly , it was great practice for my pronunciation of Mandarin. Finding the hotel is as challenging as any other located where vehicles are not permitted to enter. We were fortunate to have a taxi driver who helped us figure out where the hotel was, and then walked us there. Datong is not yet well known as a tourist destination. However, it is a reasonably close drive to the Hanging Temple and the Grottoes, as well as the Wooden Pagoda. There is plenty to see within walking distance. The city space around the hotel is under construction- I expect it will become a lot more popular in the next two years.

Very close to the ancient city, you can walk or ride a shared bike there. The ancient city buildings are all reconstructed, but the light show at night is pretty good, and the lighting project is well done. The hotel staff are very enthusiastic and have a great service attitude. The font on the wall opposite the elevator lobby is too small and inconspicuous, and the directions are unclear. After getting out of the elevator, you might end up going to the wrong side. Overall, it's very good.

First off, the guesthouse's location is excellent. It's on the quieter northern side of the old town, very peaceful, not far from the parking lot, and close enough to the main road for easy taxi access. The room has a simple, clean aesthetic, and what you see is truly what you get. Although Datong in Chinese New Year was quite cold, the room temperature was perfect – short sleeves were fine. During this trip to Datong, we experienced both a sandstorm and a cold front, but what left the deepest impression on me was the guesthouse's front desk staff. Our group of over ten people stayed for four days, and both ladies working shifts at the front desk were incredibly kind, polite, gentle, and patient. Since most of our group is Hui Muslim, they were constantly concerned about our dining needs and recommended restaurants for us. While breakfast was a bit of a walk from the guesthouse, the food was delicious. Every day I looked forward to the breakfast's knife-cut noodles, and the vegetarian toppings were also tasty. The lady at the restaurant was very warm and genuine, and her local accent made her sound especially friendly. My companions all agreed that choosing this guesthouse was a great success, and we'll definitely stay here again if we have the chance to visit Datong!
