Tours City Center
Arrived by train from Paris and walked to hotel. Room was on their second floor (quite large) at back of hotel, so very little noise from surroundings. Everything was well done without being over fussy. Breakfast was traditionally French with huge croissant, baguette, jam, cheese, yogourt etc….all delivered with a friendly manner. On departure, the owner booked us a local taxi that came to the door (we weren’t sure if taxis could travel down the narrow street, but access is fine) to whisk us to St Pierre de Corps..the out of town railway station. All perfect

As a nostalgic kid who has gone back to studying in Tours for ten years, it must be said that this apartment has all the conveniences. It only takes 3 minutes to catch the train and it is very convenient to go to the castle and the city center. There is a mini kitchen in the apartment-style, where you can make your own tea, buy alcohol and make some convenient fast food. I booked the cheapest room type because I was traveling alone, but the room for me was facing the church bell tower, and the bed was super large and comfortable. It may not be as big as a big hotel room, but a typical French residence is like this. The sanitation is very good, but the catch is that there is no daily room cleaning.

The rooms are pretty good, average, but the rich breakfast is well worth it overall, and the front desk is friendly, not far from the train station, just a few minutes walk away.

The People - Tours

I have eaten in the restaurant associated with this hostel a couple of times and since I needed to return to the city for an event, I thought I would try out the hostel because I know the city well and don't need to be right in the centre. Upon trying to book my reservation, I was told that they are imposing the health pass throughout the hotel (not just in the restaurant space - which is what the law requires here in France). They also repeatedly mentioned mask-wearing etc. which is fine, but it does not make for a good experience when making a booking. Of course, the health requirements are important, but I have decided to stay elsewhere because I find it strange to discriminate against people without the health pass with such zeal. I prefer to spend my money elsewhere and in a less anxiety-inducing place. I don't want to have to show my health pass each time I come and go from a hotel.
Mercure Tours Nord

I am lucky that my company is moving away from the Tours Nord area. It means that I do not have to stay in this Mercure anymore. Let me be clear: the staff members are very nice and that is the reason I still give 3 points. However, this is the only Mercure where I would never get an upgrad as a platinum or now gold member. They are always full. Sometimes I find it hard to believe given the size - and the fact that in CDG I have the upgrade every time. The standard rooms are of good standard mercure quality but in regards to amenities it is really below any kind of standard: you have a shower gel from a large bottle (that was unfortunately empty) and the same for the soap. There is nothing else. You get coffee powder and a couple of tea bags as well as a half liter of water. Maybe I am spoiled after our holidays in Asia but I am seriously considering to quit the Accor Live Limitless program and try my luck somewhere else. For two nights for business it is ok and again, lovely staff. Just not a place that makes you feel welcome. I am looking forward to seeing the folks at the Mercure Tours Sud again (should I remain with ALL...).
