Spent the 4th of July week here at the Courtyard Marriott in Dearborn, Michigan. First time in this hotel. Appreciated the free parking outside of the hotel (there is parking on the side of the hotel and parking in the back of the hotel. This hotel is not far (only 3 miles) from the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village therefore on the evening of July 4th was seeing fireworks from time to time that I believe were coming from the Salute of America event at the Henry Ford Museum. However there are luxury apartment buildings across from the hotel, therefore on that 4th of July evening I witnessed from my hotel window some shooting off firecrackers! The Courtyard Marriott is also only a few miles from the Fairlane Town Center, as well as there is a ***** mall that is within walking distance (that has a Burlington as well as a Best Buy store). Courtyard Marriott is also not far from M-39 (Southfield Freeway) that one can take to get to downtown Detroit relatively quickly. The room was pretty comfortable. One observation: per what I have read housekeeping will clean the room every other week however my room was clean about three consecutive days, then not cleaned the rest of the week I stayed in the room. The hotel does have a bar area. However I'm not sure if it was because of the 4th of July holiday that I hardly saw the bar area opened. Also made use of the fitness center for my workouts. Did not utilize the pool because it was mostly being used by kids. The hotel also has a laundry area, however on my first day I tried to access the area with my hotel key but my hotel key was not working. No didn't ask at the front desk to address this issue because I ended up not using the laundry facilities since I was only at the hotel one week. The Courtyard Marriott is located in primarily the 'business center' of the Ford Motor Company. Across the street was a large office center that belongs to Ford as well as I drove down Mercury Drive I saw other office buildings that belongs to the Ford Motor Company. Overall I did enjoy my stay at the Courtyard Marriott in Dearborn Michigan and I do recommend this hotel if you want to be near shopping at the Fairlane Town Center, enjoying learning at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, or make the short trip to downtown Detroit.

Arrival There was no one at the desk. Therefore I had to call reception to create something and eventually this young lady appeared. I was not acknowledged as a diamond not offered an upgrade. Then she hey wanted to charge me 100 dollars for incidentals. When I challenged it was actually in case I did damage to the room. As a diamond member do you think IHG would be concerned about me damaging a room. I was incensed by this. I understand a hold for extras I told them I was staying one night sleeping and going. The young lady was clueless. The room was drab however the bed was comfortable. The air con was quite noisy. Luckily only staying one night. Breakfast well OMG it’s clear they don’t give a crap about the environment. Plastic key cards. Plastic cutlery. Each slice of bread wrapped in plastic. Plastic plates. The food was not worth it. After a few bites I decided to get breakfast at airport. Check out. The chap was dressed like he was at home playing a video games. However we was more clued up and apologised for the check in. However when I mentioned plastic at breakfast he couldn’t see why that was a problem. Don’t the young ones get taught about recycling and environment. In schools in USA.

I have stayed here many times in the past, but this visit was horrendous! I arrived there about 12:30/1 am and there was some kind of “party” in the patio area right outside the front desk area. There were about 15-20 people, liquor bottles all over the table, people smoking cigars, no where really to park, and it was not the first thing I wanted to see when I got to my hotel after a long day (on a WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY at 1 am)! I also “checked in online” the day before and was waiting for my mobile key (or so I thought), but never got a key so I was told to go to the front desk so I did. When I got there and gave her my ID it was taking a while so I asked was there an issue? I didn’t get an answer so I told her I checked in online everything should be ok, well I was told “we don’t do online checkin or have mobile keys here so I’m finding your room now.” Wow!! I was also asked to sign a form to acknowledge the “quiet hours” starting at 10 pm, no smoking and no party policy”. That was fine (even though there was a full fledge “party” a few steps away! I also pointed out their form said the room deposit said $100 per day and when asked to clarify I was told, it didn’t matter what it stated it is $100 total! Smdh!! THEN to make matters worse, the elevator didn’t work!! I was in the 3rd building on the 3rd floor and had to lug all my luggage up the stairs! The hallway had sheets thrown on the floor and when I got to my room the air conditioner was running! No problem, I’ll just turn it off right! NO! I switch it off NOTHING, I turned up the temp expecting the heat to come on, but more cold air came out!! So I called the front desk to ask if I could have another room because the air wouldn’t shut off. I was told there are no more rooms and maintenance is offsite until tomorrow, so I asked am I supposed to freeze? She apologized and said there’s nothing she could do until the next day! Huh!! I kept messing with the thermostat and end up trying the “heat emerg” setting and the heat finally kicked on. I was able to set the temp at about 79 and once the room got to 79 it finally cut off. The room was also dirty and the toilet took 30-45 mins to fill, so when the maintenance guy came the next day at about 11:30 am, I told him what happen with the thermostat & he was nice but he didn’t know exactly what the problem was to fix it! At that point I was frustrated and just said if it stays off at the “heat emerg” setting I was fine. I told him about the toilet and he did fix that with a new part. The elevator worked early that day, but when I returned Thursday night it was off again!! There was (what I later learned) a “family staying next door and also across the hall. Well I guess they could not get adjoining rooms so they kept their doors open with the latch keeping the door ajar so EVERYTIME, they went in and out you heard the doors banging against the metal hook. I don’t know if they were living there or what but they were there my entire 5.5 days and

Everything was great in the hotel Until one Valet Parking ( Bernard) very mean Very unprofessional Did not want to park my vehicle in the same place that I had it parked in the last couple of days under the shade It wasn’t a big problem until I came back to take my wallet from the car And I don’t know the reason but he changed my ticket ( valet ticket) and then insisted to remove the car and I did not want to negotiate with him So I told him do whatever you want I went to speak to the front desk Where she agreed that she does not want from me a bad complaint Since I am an Ambassador Elite in the chain and she will manage And no need to worry. 3 hours later I came down to watch the fireworks and I saw another car parked in the place under the shade So I did not speak to him and I went directly to the front desk where she told me that this a customer at the restaurant ( so staying for 2 hours) They let a visitor park in the only spot I asked for The funny thing is The front desk letting me speak to someone on the phone to calm me down It turns out he is the security in the building and did not add anything but made it worse And made my problem worse Imagine a simple request was not met because they let the mean Valet driver do what he wants I don’t want to say anything about other Valet ppl in the hotel Because I met several people and they were all great Again My problem in this hotel that made me give a 1 Star was Bernard from valet
