Salmon Leap Farm B&B
4.7/518 Reviews
Salmon Leap Farm has perfected the delicate balance of quaint Irish aesthetic with modern convenience. The B&B sits just outside of Killarney National Park and is itself an idyllic scene of Irish beauty. The landscaping includes climbing roses and hydrangeas, with an arched walkway that crosses a small water feature. Neighboring cows are quiet and add to the charm. Inside the house you'll find a sitting area and a rustic breakfast room, complete with Waterford Crystal and a welcoming inscription in Garlic above the fireplace. Sean, the owner, was most helpful in providing tips for Killarney National Park, and he made a delicious breakfast in the morning. The location provides fast wifi and our ensuite was modern with complimentary organic soaps.

A really lovely place to stay. Christine and Paul, the owners were very welcoming and took a lot of care looking after our group including us, to make sure that we were all happy. As part of the community here for at least a few generations, they certainly knew the area and gave us a lot of good tips for sightseeing and things worth doing. The property is in first class condition, really clean and fresh. Lots of attention to detail that made us more comfortable, something that we certainly appreciated. The property has great views in all directions and the large clean windows added to our overall enjoyment of the property.

Fantastic warm check in with the owner and made to feel extremely welcome. Offered advice on where to go depending on what we fancied explaining where to head in the town for some live music plus nearby festival in Listowel. The place was absolutely spotless and we had a nice luxury room with very large bathroom, lots of storage and great facilities. The room was very comfortable and decorated homely not like your average room. The bed and mattress was outstanding and of luxury quality including large fluffy pillows. We didnt opt for breakfast but left our car in town the night before. The owner kindly offered to drive us back into town to pick up the car in the morning. Please book here for a truly memorable stay in Ballybunion.
Seagull Cottage B&B

PROS: Exceptionally clean. Everything seemed relatively new. Beautifully quiet. Nice warm room. Bedding, décor, and furnishings were all quite nice and well selected. CONS: No lounge or living room type common area for guests to sit comfortably with only one basic office chair provided in the room. Quite simply, it was too sp****ly furnished and appointed. Wi-fi was very sketchy (despite numerous reboots) and even stopped working completely for quite some time. The owner since claimed to have “super fast Wi-Fi” and that we should have addressed Wi-fi issues on-site, but we had no idea how to find the proprietor once he handed us the room keys and then basically disappeared for the duration of our stay (behind one of the closed doors on the property?). In short, we could not address the Wi-fi issues as he suggested. There were no TV’s in the entire property, which the owner stated was done on purpose to provide a “quiet and peaceful experience”. That seems nice enough, but without reliable working Wi-fi, the property became an isolated entrapment while we stared at the walls for several hours. A tomb is a “quiet and peaceful experience”, but that doesn’t necessarily make it pleasant. By normal Irish standards for hotels, 4:30 pm check-in and 10:30 am check-out times were quite late and early respectively, which is not common for Ireland as the owner subsequently claimed. We stayed in more than 30 hotels in Ireland and not one of them provided so little overall time. The typical turnaround from check-in to check-out (in all of 2100 miles we traveled around Ireland) was about an hour longer, one way or another. Responding to this, the owner quite rudely wrote (his quote) that we “would need to familiarise yourself with the basics before travelling somewhere”. To that, I can only say we are traveling 110 days this year in 16 different countries and have traveled to about 40 countries before. We plan our journeys exhaustively. I suggest rather than provide insulting remarks about our travel abilities, which are highly tuned and time-tested, perhaps this property’s management should listen to useful customer input about things which were not customary and inferior to competitors. Breakfast was an additional charge which rather goes against the ENTIRE notion of calling oneself a B&B. In retrospect, on closer examination, I concede the advertised rates for the property apparently included a non-breakfast option, but it’s important to note that is not always completely obvious when viewing typical hotel booking sites. Addressing this, the owner wrote that “it looks like you had no idea what you were booking and were not looking at the location or anything at that time”. Overlooking the blatant rudeness of that comment, our situation was actually quite the contrary, and we were keenly familiar with the location, having already spent a total of 25 days traversing the entire west coast of Ireland throughout both rural and urban areas before

Very nice accommodation. A nice older lady welcomed us very warmly. The room wasn't big but comfortable. With coffee and biscuits. The bathroom was modern and clean, big shower. The breakfast room was very well maintained and beautifully set. You could say what you wanted to eat. There was also cereal, yogurt, fresh berries and fruit.

The tea/coffee with cakes upon arrival are a welcoming hug as you enter this charming home with views that are like a postcard. Phil meets you with her warm Irish smile and directs you to your well kept, comfortable room. We stayed downstairs in room 6. My family was in room 7 which is like a suite Micheal helps with the luggage with a joke or two and a kind sense of humor. Upon awakening you head toward the smells of fresh brewed coffee and breakfast to trump most all breakfasts in taste. I can say they made the one of the most delicious eggs Benedict’s in my history. Just around the corner is a pub and a walk along the magnificent cliffs. Phil lets you know all the things to do and how to get there. I loved my quiet time in the sitting room sipping coffee or Jameson and soaking in the views of the Atlantic, with sheep and ponies dotting the breathtaking landscape. Thank you Phil and Bernie for taking such good care of us.

This hotel seems more like a bed and breakfast to me. You won't find any nicer employees anywhere!! Everyone from the front desk staff to the breakfast servers are fabulous. When we checked in the front desk clerk offered us a map, asked why we were in town and provided vital information that helped us do the things we wanted to do. This is off the beaten path, so quiet, but still within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and bars in Killarney. If you have mobility issues, you may have to take a cab though. We walked everyday to the downtown area without difficulty. If you have a noisy neighbor, you will probably hear them through the walls. We tried to keep our TV volume low later in the evening so not to disturb our neighbors. They have a place where you can wash and dry your clothes for a small fee. They also have a small bar with indoor and outdoor seating. We did spend one evening sitting outside with drinks. The front desk clerk also mans the bar, so only beer or simple mix drinks. We loved the coffee at the breakfast buffet. Best coffee I had while in Ireland. The breakfast was delicious with a small breakfast bar then a made to order menu with a daily special. The breakfast is included with the room.

A friendly warm welcome by Morris on arrival. He told us of all the things to see and do with a wealth of knowledge of the local area and a touch of history. We had the sweetest room with comfortable beds. We were made to feel at home and enjoyed a laugh. We felt like we were old friends. Such a wonderful experience.
