The JR bus from Hachinohe drops you right at the hotel entrance, which is super convenient, especially for independent travelers. In winter, it's best to reserve your spot for 300 JPY (JR Pass East Japan is accepted). The bus makes two 10-minute stops where you can hop off and take photos. The hotel has a charming, vintage feel to it.

I've long admired the reputation of the Hoshino Resorts, and this was my first time staying at one of their properties. The ”Kai” series is supposedly a mid- to high-end resort hotel specializing in hot springs, but overall, I was a bit disappointed. First, the hotel's location is quite secluded, in the Owani Onsen area of Aomori Prefecture. It's relatively close to Hirosaki City, a mere 10-minute train ride away, but it's quite a distance from Shin-Aomori Station, the Shinkansen terminus, taking nearly an hour. This late September visit to Owani Onsen might have been off-season, but the temperature was pleasant, the crowds were sparse, and the hot spring village surrounding the station was tranquil. If you make a reservation in advance, the hotel's shuttle bus will pick you up at Owani Onsen Station, a roughly 10-minute ride away (though I later discovered the hotel is also a 20-minute walk, which is still quite close). But upon entering the hotel, the popularity of the Hoshino Resorts became apparent. The lobby was nearly full upon check-in, instantly diminishing the sense of tranquility. The hotel is small, but with 40 rooms, it feels much more commercialized than a traditional Japanese onsen hotel. There are no private baths, and the public baths aren't rotated, and the bathing environment is quite ordinary, with absolutely no special features. This kind of arrangement shouldn't be found in a high-end hotel focused on hot springs. I stayed two nights, with two nights and four meals. Meals rotate, as is typical at most hot spring hotels. However, the first day's meal was better than the second. Overall, the dining experience was only mid-range for this price range. Perhaps due to its proximity to the northern waters, the sashimi was decent, but the selection was mediocre. The other food was even less memorable.

The tatami is very comfortable, traditional Japanese style, but the location is inconvenient. The hotel has a shuttle bus, but you can't choose the time. The most distinctive feature is the Apple Hot Spring, although there is no outdoor hot spring. But after soaking, the skin is very smooth. The buffet was very good, with many apple-themed dishes and the apple juice was super tasty. Four delicious Aomori apples will be given after check-in. Very happy experience. The transportation is not very convenient. But I will consider staying there again. All service attitudes are very good.

Japanese hot spring hotel, simple, good environment. I was the only foreigner that day. It's just a few steps from Asamushi Station, but there are not many shops around and they have business hours. I arrived late that day and had no food, so I had to ask the front desk aunt to make an appointment for the hot spring. There are three, I randomly chose an empty one, the hygiene is OK, maybe there are not many people in the off-season, but if you have a cleanliness obsession, you can ignore the bath. I went to Aomori and came back late after dinner. The front desk changed to an uncle, who helped me connect to the wifi, and was quite kind. There was no hot water when I washed my face at 12 pm, and the toilet was also cold. The next morning, the water was still cold, but the toilet water was hot. When I left, the front desk changed to an old lady, who kept bowing to see me out. I wanted to smoke a cigarette in the yard before leaving, but I felt embarrassed. I waited for a while before going back to smoke one in the yard before leaving. If time is not urgent, I will stay next time and make an appointment for Japanese set meals in advance, both at noon and in the evening, (it must be early) It should be the kind that the surrounding merchants receive orders and deliver to the hotel, which is cheap and affordable.

It's best to be prepared for power outages. Public toilets and water rooms are standard features of traditional Japanese B&Bs. The Japanese breakfast is good. Please note that the check-in time is before 9 pm. If you can't arrive, be sure to contact the owner in advance. The B&B is on the mountain, so be careful when driving at night. There are no street lights.

This is a very old and unique hot spring hotel. We left Aomori Station at 8:10 am and hiked for five hours to the Oirase Gorge. We took the 3:00 am bus to Tsuta Onsen Station and checked in just in time. Our room was on the second floor, a Japanese-style tatami room. It was quite large, bright, clean, and comfortable. The bathroom and wash basin were shared, but very clean and hygienic, although the noise from walking in the hallway was quite noticeable in the morning. The hot springs were great, built entirely of wood, with no outdoor pool. The water was warm, and you could add cold water yourself. The dinner was nice and small, and exquisite. After dinner, we soaked in the hot springs and went to the front door to stargaze. The starry sky without light pollution was beautiful! We even saw a shooting star! It was a perfect stay! The staff were also very warm and polite, continuing their traditions! When traveling abroad, follow the local customs, observe their rules and pay attention to etiquette, and promote the good image of China.

Superb views, buffet dinner options, diverse indoor outdoor bath options with salt and clear water!! A rare gem  for families. Staff spoke English at front desk and restaurants, and welcome descriptions note is written in English as well. Alternate timings at bath for Men and women assures equal views for both. The outside open air bath at the beach is probably the hit and can get crowded at sunset and less so during sunrise. The open air bath attached to the indoor area bath offers better sunset views, from an elevation of about 30 meters. We (family of three) enjoyed it very much and probably rank it the best of our three prefecture experience with respect to the bath.

It is highly recommended to travel by car, because the location is far from the station There is also a self-service laundry near the hotel, which is very convenient Free hot springs are available every night. The bathhouse is small but enough to use. Breakfast choice is simple and not too much money, but it is enough leftovers and tastes very good The room is clean, or it is biased towards the suburbs, there are small insects every night but it does not affect the stay ☀️ The aunts and staff in the dining hall have a good attitude and are courteous to foreigners

In the scenic area, you can hear the sound of the gurgling water in the hotel, and the tap is clear mountain spring water. Open the window and you can see the gurgling mountains and lush trees. Good health. The hotel owner is a serious uncle. Also because it is in the scenic area, there are no convenience stores or restaurants around the hotel.

It's true what they say about an inn with a spectacular view. The heavy rain that was falling when I checked in stopped the next morning, and I was able to gaze at the autumn-like sky and sea in front of my room for a while. It had been a while since I'd stayed in a Japanese-style room, and I was able to enjoy local ingredients for both dinner and breakfast, making for a truly enjoyable holiday in Aomori. It was also great that I was within walking distance of the prefectural aquarium. There was a live Tsugaru shamisen performance in the evening, which really immersed me in the romantic atmosphere of travel and exceeded my expectations. This is an inn that I would recommend to others.

LLeCobbAs a backpacker, the journey to the hotel was challenging. I chose this one because it was the closest to Hakusan-Hoko Temple, which I absolutely had to see for its magnificent three-story pagoda and all its surroundings. Arriving from Aomori, I couldn't leave until after 4 p.m. Having not paid attention, I discovered that there are very few buses between Suwanotaira Station and the hotel, the last one leaving at 5:30 p.m. So, I decided to walk with my 25 kg packs. Walking in the dark through the forest with my small flashlight, I heard a dog barking incessantly near a farm. Suddenly, there was a loud noise in a tree: a bear came down very quickly and started growling. I was terrified, stepped back, and used a bell to scare it away. This happened a five-minute walk from the hotel. The receptionist was surprised but took my story seriously, asking me for the exact location. I hadn't eaten since morning, and despite the kitchens being closed, she offered to make me onigiri and sake. They were the best I've had since arriving in Japan. I particularly enjoyed the hotel's onsen for relaxing after the long walk. It was my first time sleeping in a traditional Japanese room, and I loved the experience. Kimonos are available in all sizes. Thinking I could finally go to sleep peacefully, my phone received two national alerts. I had barely started reading them when a major earthquake struck. The entire room began to shake. I was worried because I had never experienced anything like it before. The alarms in my room and throughout the hotel started going off. The receptionist came to me several times to check if I was alright and to tell me not to use the elevator. The cleaning staff also came to check if the water was turned off in my bathroom. The alarms went off again at 6:00 a.m. and then 8:00 a.m. The receptionist came to my room to offer to drive me to the temple free of charge, something I had originally planned to do on foot, and then to take me from the temple to Hachinohe Station, because due to the earthquake, all trains between Suwanotaira and Hachinohe Stations had been canceled, as well as the Shinkansen trains departing from Hachinohe that I was originally supposed to take to Tsuruoka. I am extremely grateful for the support and kindness of the receptionist. She took care of me without me even asking. Thanks also to Yukuri Okobo for her kindness and for driving me to the temple and then to Hachinohe Station. Despite these very unusual circumstances, I highly recommend this hotel! You couldn't ask for a better welcome as a foreigner, and the rooms and onsen are superb! Arigatō Gozaimasu! 😊

DDevThis hostel is conveniently located near Lake Towada. It can be easily accessed from the JR bus station. There is a convenience store at about 100 meters of distance from the hostel. The building is a bit outdated and the facilities look old. But please remember that this is a hostel and is affordable. The staff are extremely polite and welcoming. They have a big heart and serve with their full sincerity. When I reached the hostel early, there was nobody at the front desk, but there was a note for me with my room details. Later at night, When I mentioned that I do not eat meat, and I will manage with only rice, the lady, Ms. Tomoko quickly prepared fish without even thinking twice and asked me to pay very little. Even the next day she prepared cold noodles along with rice and charged extremely less. The point here is not the money but her big heart in serving without thinking about money or profit. I highly recommend this hostel purely by considering at the generosity and sweet, politeness of the staff there. This hostel is conveniently located even to walk along Oirase gorge. Easier to stay here and take bus to either to the northern end - Yakeyama or the southern, lake side end Nenokuchi and walk along the gorge and return back to the hostel. This way the trip becomes affordable and easier.

GGuest UserThe location of the ryokan is ideal. It is beautiful and conveniently located along the MIchinoku Coastal Trail. The sunrises are spectacular. The facility is very clean, with shared bathroom and baths. The owner and staff are so kind and helpful and their effort to speak English was greatly appreciated. We arrived late in the evening the first night, past dinner time, but was offered food upon our arrival. The staff arranged for a cab to pick us up at 6 am the next morning to go to the Morning Market. There was hot water and delicious green tea bags available all the time. My daughter voiced that she wanted to see the senbei store/class in downtown Hachinoe. The staff went out of their way to arrange for us to have a private lesson with a senbei sensei who showed us how to make our own senbei, with different fillings. It was one of the highlights of our trip. Dinner was well balanced and delicious as was breakfast the next morning. There is a quaint train station across the street from the ryokan that took us to downtown Hachinoe at the end of our stay. We will definitely stay there again when we return.

JJacq SThis really a gem for us! During our booking, there's no any comment from trip.com, but we saw the location and Japan hotel website reviews are not bad, we never regret to choose this hidden gem stay! This stay operated by a family, they're friendly, communication wise main by translate apps. During our stay, there's only we 1 family, we deeply enjoyed the privacy. The ryokan is sparkling clean, onsen is real best & clean, foods are the BEST local foods. To go this place, suggest to self drive. Unfortunately after we left, the stay close for winter rest. I'll definitely come back to this for next

GGuest UserWe wish to express our highest appreciation to the host of Shokanto Onsen Ryokan because she was very kind although she told us she will not manage to prepare breakfast for us due to our schedule was too early, but she was very kind, she woke up early to prepare a simple onigiri for us to bring together when we left. Thank you very much. The room 's windows open to cherry trees. The lighting in the room was amazing which can be control in many modes. The location can reach easily with taxi for about 26 min from Hirosaki Station.

玩转星球-KevinAlthough breakfast and dinner are included, there is no hot spring and view. The hotel covers a large area and parking is convenient. I booked here because the nearby non-*** hot spring hotel was out of room, so I had no choice at that time. If you care about the view of the Twelve Lakes, this place has an excellent location and is close at hand.

WWawaqingqinglalaziThe hotel is right at the bus stop, which is very convenient. Compared with Tokyo, the room is really big and comfortable. It is equipped with double-glazed windows and is very quiet. The hot spring bath is also very comfortable. But the only thing that makes me feel that the dinner is all chicken food. I don't eat chicken, so I was very hungry that night, but there was nothing to eat nearby.

GGuest UserIt was a space where you can relax and relax in a place rich in nature. Dinner was fresh wild plants, water dumpling set, breakfast was handmade bread, ham with croquettes, etc., all were very delicious (^^) The futon was also fluffy and comfortable to sleep in. When I told you that I wanted to take a walk in the mountains near my house, my husband and wife and children guided me through the walking course after breakfast, and I was able to have a good time. I was grateful for the pick-up and drop-off from Asamushi Onsen Station. On the way back, I stopped by a recommended shrine with my family, which left me in memory as a shrine lover. It was a heartwarming stay with the hospitality of your family. I would like to visit you again ♩ Thank you!
