Safestay in York is an excellent place to stay, especially if you arrive by train. It is a few minutes' walk from the station, and also very close to all the major attractions.
We stayed in a room in the basement, and although it was not luxurious, it had everything we needed. The room was spacious and clean, and the bed was comfortable. There was a dehumidifier in the room, so no moldy, damp smell. Even though it was freezing outside, the radiator kept the room warm enough.
The bathroom is quite small, though, and no bath mat was supplied for when you step out of the shower. The water in the shower did not get hot enough - it stayed lukewarm.
The breakfast was good value for money, but it could get quite noisy when there were large groups of people. I also saw people taking all the fruit and extra yoghurts and croissants for 'takeaways'.
The staff were friendly and very helpful.
All in all it was a great place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone.

They are all girls who love to be clean. It’s good, the world cannot exist without girls. It’s just that it’s hard to find it when it’s dark. The train was delayed for the first time and I couldn’t find the way late at night. Google Navigation sucked me and went around to the other side. There was also a little fox with green eyes. It was the only one at night. Just the green eyes are dazzling, and the hair on the hair is standing on end. The next day I discovered that the road next to it was a cemetery. It's quite scary. It's easy to find at dawn.

Would definitely come back! Good location, walkable distance from station and city centre! You can rent towels from reception, which was really helpful for me. Bar open till 23h and good prices!

It was beautiful and comfortable! There was also a hair dryer! It's far from the center, so you either have to walk or take a bus, but there are a lot of buses, and the roads you walk on look beautiful, so I think it's a good idea.

Beautiful room, very clean, warm and comfortable with plenty of towels and pillows. Big TV, easy to navigate remote!
Bathroom was spotless, nice complimentary toiletries.
Comfy bed, had a good sleep once I managed to get off, could hear other guests on the corridor, but I guess I was earlier settling in than the average on a Sunday evening (early to work Monday!)
Breakfast was really good quality, fair selection of hot and cold options, lots of fresh fruit on offer too. Very impressed, bit disappointed I arrived later on the Sunday evening and decided not to have an evening meal now!

AAnonymous UserAlthough on a main street it is easily missed especially at night time as there is lack of attractive signs. On site parking is very restricted although there is a public car park about 100 metres down the street. It is close to the village centre. Room was clean; size and decors are reasonable too.

GGuest UserThe location is perfect. Alternative parking was offered if needed, which it was not as we parked in the front of The George. The room was spacious (we were in number 10) with a sitting area and desk for those who require to do work ... the bed was very comfortable. The restaurant was top notch ... we ordered Steak and Ale Pie, which was delicious and Fish and Chips (asked for them to leave off the fresh/mushy peas) ... the fish was enormous, fresh and very tasty ... the fries/chips were homemade.
All in all, we would highly recommend The George.

SSpeightThe Plough Inn was a delightful place to stay. The staff were very friendly and the room was spotless! I had the best nights sleep ever because it’s so nice and quiet. The food was absolutely delicious also, both dinner and breakfast were fantastic. Drinks at the bar are reasonably priced. Parking is free and plentiful. Would love to visit it again. A lovely, cosy Yorkshire dales vibe.

JJefferyxia1220This hotel is a bit far from the station, but for walking, I recommend getting off the bus and walking along the railway fence to the hotel. That road crosses a bridge and is not far from the hotel. The hotel is very convenient to the Cathedral and Shambles Street, and the female shopkeeper is also quite enthusiastic. The room I stayed in was in the attic, so it was a bit troublesome to carry my luggage, but there was a corridor above, which made the room feel very wide.

GGuest UserDeluxe room was clean but very small. Twin beds were inches apart from each other with no room to move further apart. Meals were only adequate, the main courses we had both chosen from the evening menu weren’t available, sold out by 7pm, so we had to select alternatives, which were less than inspiring. Altogether a rather disappointing experience
