It is really small, and room only have half of one floor height for sleeping, really like sleeping in a box. And if you bring any luggage, you need to consider can it be open in that small place. And u need to shared the bathroom with others, and it do not separate the male or female one. All sex are using the same bathroom.
When I checked in, the owner kindly explained how to use the hostel.
There is a free hair dryer in the bath, and there are about five of them, which is convenient.
There is a locker room that you can use for free. The owner also kindly explains how to set the PIN code.
The rooms have curtains to ensure privacy. You can hear noise, but if you use earplugs or earphones, it's not a problem.
It is a little far from Amsterdam Central Station, but
I think it's a good idea to plan to arrive early and check what time the train is. I left late and had trouble with the few trains. If you use the bus, I don't think you need to worry about this.
Overall, it was a great stay.
The beds were very clean, and I didn't find any bed bugs. The facilities seem to have been recently renovated, as the shower and toilet are new. The location is also convenient, just a 20-minute tram ride directly from Amsterdam Central Station, and within a 40-minute walk of the city center. There are a few cafes nearby as well. The front desk staff were friendly and kind, speaking slowly in English for Japanese guests. Plus, there's a gym with a cable machine and a bench, so you can at least get an arm workout in. I highly recommend this hostel.
The girl at the reception wasn’t that friendly and not so helpful. It didn’t feel like she likes working there. The guy who welcomed me in the evening to check in was nice tho. The staff at The Elephant is much much better. The girl with braids (she’s a black baddie) sorry to say black, she was so nice and lovely!
Via Amsterdam exceeded my expectations. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable, making it a great place to rest after exploring the city. The location is convenient with good access to transport and nearby attractions. The staff provided excellent service—always helpful and friendly. Amenities were also impressive, offering everything needed for a pleasant and enjoyable stay. Perfect for solo travelers who want both comfort and convenience in Amsterdam.

I had a very disappointing experience with the staff during my stay. I booked the room from 8 to 11 April specifically so I could arrive early on 9 April and check in without issues. However, when I arrived, I was told I could not check in early, and no clear explanation of the policy was provided. I only asked for clarification, but the staff’s attitude felt unfriendly and unhelpful, and I ended up waiting for a long time.
Later, I decided to upgrade to a pod room. Initially, a female staff member showed me the price of €137 for two nights, which I agreed to. However, shortly after, another staff member changed the price to €200 without a clear justification. This inconsistency and lack of transparency were very frustrating.
Overall, the experience was poorly handled, with unclear policies, inconsistent pricing, and unfriendly service. It left a negative impression despite the booking itself being straightforward.
Overall, I had a fairly good experience staying here. The staff were very friendly and always willing to help, which I really appreciated.
However, there were a few issues. The bedside area was quite dusty and didn’t seem properly cleaned. Also, there was some confusion with the bed arrangements, and people ended up sleeping in the wrong beds, which was a bit inconvenient.
That said, aside from these points, the overall stay was still pleasant. With some improvements in cleanliness and organization, this place could be even better.
The location is very good, very close to the museum and the canal, there is a meal downstairs just to pay, but the taste is very wanting to stop when passing by, but unfortunately we have arranged the itinerary, next time we have the opportunity to choose to stay here. p.s. does not provide toiletries, bath towels and hair dryers, etc., to prepare by yourself, such as forgetting to bring a hair dryer or can be borrowed at the counter, but the number is limited (depending on luck (?)

GGuest UserThe front desk is located in a room inside a bar, and I was assigned a room in an adjacent building. The stairs are a bit too narrow, so you need to be careful. There are no common areas available. There are charging ports next to the bed. There are two toilets and two sinks, as well as cabinets for storage. The staff are alright.

GGuest UserThe staff are very friendly and the location is excellent, there is a bus to the airport 397, and there is a tram to the train station, supermarket and restaurant opposite.

GGuest UserStaff are great, very laid back and welcoming. It's staffed 24/7 which is rare. Comfortable beds which are already made for your arrival, which is also rare. It has a decent vending machine with beer in it! To top it all off there is probably the best lidl in Europe I have been to right across the road!
