The hotel was pretty much as you would expect from an old hotel so nothing to grumble about in that respect. But.. The jacuzzi was out of order. In the fitness room one treadmill(out of two) wasn't working and one cross trainer(out of two) wasn't working. The meal: we ordered a bottle of wine which was plonked down, unopened and left for ourselves to put pour. Not even given a taste to see if it met with our approval. My wife ordered sourdough with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. She got three doorsteps of bread with butter. Not sliced or presented nicely and no olive oil and balsamic vinegar! Had to ask for them. Her Main course was buttered chicken masala. The chicken was over cooked and tough. (A couple on the table next to us complained about it also and said it's had a funny texture. It was overcooked). She sent it back and ordered a chicken burger instead which she ate alone as I had finished my meal. (This was supposed to be a celebration meal-my 66th birthday) When her meal arrived she asked for vinegar for her chips and was told that they had just ran out of vinegar. What restaurant runs out of vinegar? Overall a complete disappointment

Stayed for one night on the way back from visiting family in Staffordshire, we picked the hotel as it offered a pool and jacuzzi but on arrival we were disappointed as it was out of order, we did ask if there was any discount and was offered 25 per cent without any quibble which was some compensation. The rooms are separate from the main house and they look very out of character as the main house was lovely, they looked a little shabby we were concerned looking from the outside. The rooms are small with no Aircon we had to open the window in the night. No wardrobes for hanging clothes and there was no hairdryer. We found our room clean and the shower was good. The restaurant offered good food at a reasonable cost. The tables where we were seated were very close and we did feel we couldn't talk freely as we had other couples in close proximity, we would have preferred a more private table for our evening meal spaced further apart. The atmosphere in the bar was chilled and relaxed with a TV playing. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice, the cooked breakfast was exceptional.

I’ve stayed here a few times. Rooms have always been clean and comfortable. Breakfast is okay. There is a small gym area which could be improved. It is small with limited kit and opens late. The grounds outside are nice to walk around. It’s nice and quiet here as there’s not much around the hotel.

I whisked my Mrs away for a weekend to this hotel and we both found it to be good. The rooms are a little tired and need refurbishing however the grounds and scenery around the hotel are absolutely amazing. We booked a superior room but ended up with a standard room on our first night. I did speak with the management team (Izzy) who was very good and moved us the next day. Lisa who showed me the new room was very polite and professional and did go above and beyond to show me how to transfer our luggage from one room to the other with minimal fuss. On the first evening Megan made some great recommendations on what to eat. She was very attentive and nothing was too much for the restaurant her and the restaurant staff. Izzy did help with finding us a new room which was what I had actually paid for. Even though the hotel is tired and in need of refurbishment, the staff were EXCELLENT!!! I cannot fault the level of service I have received at this hotel. They really went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and enjoy our stay. The new room was great and the staff really made our stay. I would only go back for this reason alone!!! Well done Izzy, Megan and Lisa. Keep up the great work you are all doing.

This place needs some serious TLC. The room had no “niceties” just cheap instant coffee packets and a large handwash bottle. The duvet was cheap polyester and made you hot & sweaty, not fresh cotton. It was supposed to be white but was a very washed dirty grey looking. The whole room and bathroom was dirty. Toothpaste on the walls, no excuse for the bath panel (see pic) coffee spills on the walls, dusty. Just generally bad. The staff could use a customer care course. Very rude, on handing in the key I was asked my name and she looked at the computer then said “ you’re done” and walked away. No “ hope you enjoyed your visit (we didn’t) or thank you or anything. Quite unbelievable. The two stars are for the look of the old house from outside and the surrounding grounds.

Lovely place with lovely staff. Very clean comfortable beds and well appointed rooms (don’t judge outside of block the rooms are perfect). Lovely food relaxed atmosphere in quite beautiful grounds and the main building smelt amazing (need to know what it was called). Thank you!

Me and my friend visited in May last year and we had a very nice stay our room was lovely and had an amazing view. We used the pool facilities and they were very nice. Unfortunately we didn’t not use the restaurant so cannot comment on the food. However the hotel was lovely and would definitely visit again
