If you want to stay clean, friendly and safe backpacker, don’t book here… I didn’t read the reviews so my bad… I went there around 5 pm for check in but no receptionist and no answer on the phone call. I waited 30 min outside then finally I could go inside but They didn’t clean the room properly. It was very smelly. I couldn’t even stay there! I went to another place and just back to key back. It might good place for someone but you might not enjoy staying there.

I have stayed in about 200 hostels in 45 countries and this was the joint worst one I've slept in. I stayed in room 38 which smelt musty and had many cockroaches in the bathroom, bedroom floor and on the bedside table. There was a window but a bathroom had been built immediately in front of it so the view was of a plaster wall. On a bright summer's day we needed to put the light on. The ceiling appeared to be tiles of congealed hay. The bathroom was disgusting, with exceptionally ugly 70s tiles, excessive plugs (probably the source of the cockroaches) and a palm-sized hole in the middle of the floor that appeared to be blocked up with bits of tissue or cooked rice. The sliding door bounced around with gaps at the sides so we had no privacy. There are no windows in the kitchen, dining room or lounge, which were all dimly lit, uninviting and not a place you'd want to linger or socialise in. The location isn't ideal either, as you can't walk to the hostel from the bus or train station, beach, river or key attractions. A large sign says 'No refunds' and no wonder. If they allowed them everyone would request a refund, like I did. I checked out two days early. I told staff it was the joint worst hostel I'd ever stayed in. They didn't ask why. Life is too short to stay somewhere this grim.

Blood stain on the bed, the room stank very badly of cigarettes, squished cockroach in the bathroom, very old and worn bedsheets, very noisy bathroom fan. The room was not secure, no where to store valuables safely. Staff seemed disorganised and though friendly, were often not around or even locked themselves out of the premise on one occasion. Wouldn't stay there again.

The property was dirty. There was no toilet paper in toilet. Tv in room didn't work. Entry and exit information wasn't forthcoming. I had to follow up and ask staff. I booked an ensuite room but did not get one. Linen was old. I would not stay here again and will not recommend it to anyone.

********** accepted our booking late at night even tho the latest you could book this particular Hotel was up until 6pm. We arrived at the hostel and rang the number which didn’t answer and after the second attempt I was advised it’s to late to check in and contacted the Manager who was asleep and after waiting one hour we decided to book another hotel and As we were on our way to that hotel a lady rang half asleep and just said sorry! It’s very dives looking on the outside and the reviews weren’t that good so I was probably saved from a very bad nights sleep and The Grosvenor Hotel was a much better place! Now I understand why hostels are so cheap!
