Excellent
WWendyC234Nice setting for the hotel on the lakeside and near to the golf course. Room was nice with water provided, a tea tray and a fridge. Bathroom was snug and the shower not very powerful. Room and bathroom were very clean. Staff all very friendly and helpful. The food was not great especially the steak which was sent back by two of our party one evening as was extremely chewy. They were offered a replacement meal with apologies from waiting staff. Omelette was very good as was the chicken and beef burger but hardly gourmet food. The menu for half board guests didn’t change much during a four night stay so we were allowed to choose certain dishes from the a la carte menu. Breakfast was usual continental fare. The boiled egg machine kept on being turned down so it was a gamble each day how long to cook an egg for which provided much humour amongst several guests. A good selection of breads and pasties. The staff worked hard to replenish dishes. The outside deck didn’t seem to get tidied at all during our stay with chairs knocked over and champagne buckets laying on the floor. Small things make a difference. The drinks are ridiculously expensive here so take your own pre dinner drinks to have in your room unless €18 for a gin and tonic is ok with you.
GGuest UserThe hotel location is good if you are looking for a stop over driving back from the Uk. The hotel grounds are beautiful, very dog friendly as your 4 legged companions can run around and go for a nice walk around the forest. However, the charge for 1 dog is 45 EUR which is certainly the highest charge I’ve paid. Now, that’s when things start to get a bit awkward. The property advertised that they have car electric charging facilities . It’s actually not true. They let you plug your car to their mains, that is if you have your own cable to do so. Booked a room and a 5 course dinner with wine pairing. A decision which was driven by the advertised “Gastronomic Experience at a Gastronomic Fine Dinning Restaurant”. A bit like the car charger situation, the restaurant fell short. Let’s say it is a restaurant but struggled to find the “gastronomy” in it. The food was genuinely below average, to the extent that out of 5 courses, I’ve not eaten 4 of them (not worth the calories). The wines were average quality and didn’t come in sequence. I believe their concept of pairing was to serve you something, with something and hope for the best. Had a cocktail to start with as an aperitif. The house cocktail , with grapefruit juice, crème de cassis topped up with champagne. The result was some grapefruit juice a bit of crème de cassis top up with flat bottom of the bottle champagne. The cocktail was not good ! However, the fact that the cocktail was at 20 EUR , it made it even harder to swallow the beverage. I think this hotel did the big mistake of rising customer’s expectations with false advertising, get them to come, with no other options around , live the experience, how mediocre it can be, then leave . I know it’s a bit harsh! I must say, they’ve apologised, and they were so kind to offer us 2 glasses of champagne at 7:30AM before we got behind the wheels to drive off ;) . I smiled and declined, reminding them that drinking and driving is not what I would call “a match made in heaven”. To conclude, save your money and time . For similar or few EUR extra you can have a much agréable experience at Chateau Beaulieu near Calais.
GGuest UserClean, welcoming and quiet. We were only here for 1 night on the way back to Calais but isn’t was perfect for what we needed. Eating places are within easy walking distance. Breakfast was continental, plenty of choice and constantly being topped up.
Wow, talk about sad and neglected 'faded glory'. We did not stay at Hotel De'Abbaye as planned last night as it is nothing like represented by the pictures on the Priceline site. The internet website is helping to promote a facility that simply no longer exists in reality. The place is very clearly uncared for, unmaintained and, in truth, is a complete shambles. The building badly smells of damp, the bedrooms are dark, very small and decidedly grim and the decor/furniture/facilities are so old and tired as to at the point of no return. The restaurant was not open even though this was a Saturday evening and the host (who actually came across as being a rather deluded but pleasant and nice enough man) didn't seem to have any idea about the fact that the hotel he is running has become no more than a dump. There was a French couple who arrived very smartly dressed for a wedding in the village. They both entered the hotel looking happy and presumably had booked in for the evening, but came out wearing face masks and looking very annoyed. They drove away. It is simply not good enough (and very probably deceptive) for this hotel to be representing itself in the way that they are doing so online. The pictures are very deceptive and very obviously from about 2017/2018 when this premises was apparently very well run by the previous managers. We had to unnecessarily fork out for other (very nice) accommodation fairly nearby. I will be suggesting to Priceline (which I am doing separately) that someone urgently pays an unannounced visit so that they can see that this is a distinct misrepresentation of what is now available and see the grim truth with their own eyes.
GGuest UserGood hotel with decent facilities, very far from centre of Chateau Thierry, so walking there on busy main road , with NO pavement would be dodgy . Food good , but service slow and courses take a while to reach you after you have ordered. Shower good. One weird design - there is NO internal door handle ! You have to push the door shut once inside And push door to get out . 2 towels a day supplied . Air conditioning excellent. Plenty of parking. Very busy main road , but noise at night not an issue. Have slept well , all week.
The hotel was very comfortable and very badly staffed because they refused to pay me the stay fee for 2 people by error while I was alone. Inacceptable hygiene because blood tasks are present on the madraws, from mosquito to joints in the bathroom, no support for the shower apple. The bathroom is completely shaken after having taken a shower. So it is impossible to go back to the toilet or laundry without finding your feet in the water ... It is almost impossible to find a parking place taken by the many trucks of workers in the evening. Noises to quite late in the evening because they go out to talk, eat and drink a little bit between themselves. Without talking about cleaning staff who speak neither French, nor English, nor Spanish, which complicates communication and especially who comes every day in the room at 9 a.m. despite the ” not disturb ” card !!! The only positive point that justifies the only star is the presence of a microwave and a refrigerator. Conclusion: I do not recommend this hotel. Even the price of €45 per night is far too expensive for this level of comfort. It is an abnormality when you see the size of the room and the state in which it is. I strongly disadvise. It is the first time I have met such bad experience in a hotel for this price there...
