The most amazing transformation of a 800 years old monastery to a modern 5 stars hotel. Highly reccomended.

Unique location for this newly renovated hotel inside the monastery. Impressive common places. Large rooms. Design and minimalist furnitures. Love it !

Highly recommended! Although this courtyard is hundreds of years later than the main courtyard of the monastery where tickets are sold, the style is consistent, and the designer's renovation concept is very good, which not only retains the solemn and simple style, but also ensures the comfort of living. The room is large, quiet and comfortable, the breakfast is relatively rich, the service attitude is also very good, the parking in the courtyard is very convenient, and the room price is very cheap in the local area, and the cost performance is very high.

This is the best hotel I have stayed in in Portugal. The quality of the hotel is very good, the space is great, the food is delicious, and it is designed by Souto de morua, the winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize. It is a five-star experience, but the price is very cheap!

Wonderful location just arrived the back side of the monastary, which is really the only reason to visit Alcobaça. We were not able to check in right away but the staff was kind and helpful. The facility has been renovated and is very modern, which is not usually my style, but it's done in a very tasteful manner. Perhaps the nicest part was the beautifully designed pool with perfect water temperature ... I could have spent an entire afternoon there. The rooms are spacious and offer most modern conveniences. The beds were large and comfortable. I felt the price was a bit high, but they really delivered with breakfast ... one of the best breakfast buffets I've had in a long while with tremendous variety and excellent quality offerings. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

We ate at the restaurant for a birthday dinner as we live locally. It was not good. The food was bland and average at best. I had a dish with mussels and shrimp- both overcooked and tasteless. The service was abhorrent. Took a long time for anything to be ordered or served and there were only a few other patrons in the restaurant. They did not have many wines on their menu then when agreed to a wine- they brought a different one. Poured a glass- left the bottle on a table away from ours and never came to pour other glasses or check if we wanted anything else, never checked on us after we were served food either. It was the single worst dining experience we have had in a year of living in Portugal. It took over 30 minutes to get the bill and pay which included 2 of us going to get someone. Don’t eat here- there are so many good attentive restaurants within walking distance.

A beautiful building, but unfortunately the furnishings and service lacked sophistication. It is worth spending one night at the hotel, especially if you find an off-season price reduction, but stay clear of the restaurant! For a 5 star hotel, our dinning experience was below mediocre. The restaurant lacks ambiance: too bright and uncomfortable cafeteria-style chairs. Limited menu availability; they ran out of bread and did not have any of the wines we chose from their wine list. Our food arrived lukewarm, the spaghetti was overcooked and the shrimp did not taste fresh. Breakfast was good and the (only) girl serving/clearing tables/greeting guests was amazing!!!

This is the most unique hotel experience one can have! Modern style mixed with old world charm - your stay here in the historical village of Alcobaca - will definitely be memorable ! What we loved most ? The shutters & window in the room - that swings open to a view of the breath taking courtyard ! The rooms are so modern & beautiful! They are all former monk sleeping quarters - so some of the cool design details remain - the arched doors are gorgeous! Don't forget to add the onsite breakfast onto your stay- a spread like youve never seen before!

Let me say the hotel does what it says. Apart from a few minor things it's a lovely hotel. But this review is entirely based on my opinion. Hubby has wanted to stay here since it opened a year or so ago. It's 20 minutes from home. We can't normally stay away at the moment for personal reasons but a friend stepped in and covered for us as it was OHs 60th birthday. On line the place really didn't appeal to me. The hotel looked stark and empty, the rooms underwhelming. And that's how it is. I paid to upgrade to a Premier room. I still am unaware what the difference is from standard. We got some sliced fruit and a nice bottle of sparkly. For the Premier room or for hubby's birthday? We had no clue. The hotel is VAST, huge corridors. There is not one piece of artwork in the entire place. I absolutely understand they are trying to keep the integrity of the building but it's so echoey some art or furnishings would help. To avoid touching the building, toilets, showers, treatment rooms and Turkish bath (out of order) are simply pods. Which give the place a temporary feel. Niggles incude the shower flooding the bathroom and the hairdryer only works if you're under 5ft tall! For a 5* restaurant the foods was nicely cooked and nicely presented. No flair and certainly not memorable. If you stay here be aware you are within a 5 minute walk from two much better, much cheaper restaurants, Pratu's and Antonio Padeira's. Breakfast was OK. Again nothing amazing. The orange juice probably wasn't fresh, which is a travesty in Portugal. If it was it was watered down. The pool was simply gorgeous. Not deep, but really beautifully built around the original pillars. The staff are great and very attentive. We had a nice night away - it rarely happens at the moment. If you want a historic hotel slap bang in the middle of Alcobaca, you really can't go wrong. But eat out. It simply wasn't for me.

This historical gem was staffed with very friendly and helpful personnel, who spent time to understand our needs and to proactively offer help. We were a group of five checking out on a rainy day. We had intended to walk from the hotel to the bus terminus, which was just 5 min walk, with our luggage. Joana, Tezmando and her staff offered to take our luggage to the bus terminus by their car and handed us umbrellas, which were not expected to be returned. It turned out that we, including all five of us and all the luggages, were given a free ride to the terminus. Joana also helped us a short while ago to sort out the bus tickets, because one of us had not received the electronic ticket from the bus company. We’re advised by Joana to enjoy the spa and pool in the hotel leaving the worry behind to her. She quickly sorted things out before we had dipped ourselves in the water at the beautiful pool. We are glad to stay in this hotel, which was historic and beautiful. It is at the town Centre and we didn’t need to worry about anything but to enjoy the serenity of the town. Must stay.

This is a beautiful hotel in a renovated section of an extraordinary monetary. The rooms are gorgeous — comfortable, modern furniture in light wood is a nice contrast to the old framework of the building. The bathroom shower is wonderful: great water pressure. The hotel restaurant is simply excellent. We went there both nights of our stay. The kitchen is managed by an intelligent chef who understands flavors. Also: try the house wine, it is exceptional. Our waiter urged us to try it, and he was absolutely correct. Also, the wait staff in the hotel were wonderful. Alcobaça is a wonderful location and an easy drive to some great sites in the area: Nazare, Batalha, Tomar, etc. The hotel is a nice place to base explorations and tours of the area. Some room for improvement: Check-in was protracted and unprofessional. At a minimum, the front desk should know which credit cards are accepted at the hotel. Also, it is safe to assume that most foreign travelers are coming for the monetary and local sites. Having some basic facts about the area available would have been useful. As good as the dining room was, breakfast was a nightmare. In large part perhaps because there were so few guests that the hotel cut back their service. If that is the case, cut the hotel rate for the guests as well. The breakfast waiter one morning was well intentioned, but the second morning, the woman working had decided not to put out many food options and said no to our requests for juice. (We subsequently found someone who brought us juice). It was not consistent with a five star hotel. Lastly, the coffee is simply terrible. The best option you can hope for is pods as their automated machine had a slightly fungal flavor.

We went to dinner last Saturday at the hotel restaurant. What a poor experience, in relation to the space and the price you pay. The room is beautiful, but without ambient music, for a more pleasant experience. For starters: rice black pudding; creme brulee and mushroom salad. Warm food, normal black pudding, satisfying mushroom salad and tasty creme brulee. For dishes, we ordered 3 goat rice and chicken leg in a fake púcara. The chicken was normal. The goat rice was tasty, but only with 3 pieces of goat and lots of chestnuts. Shameful. Head of room absent, to coordinate the service. We ordered wine, and the first two choices didn't have it. We asked them to tell us which ones they had, but not in the Bairrada area. And didn't they present us with two Bairrada wines? There was a time when the tables wanted service, but there were simply no staff in the room for at least 5 minutes. Totally abandoned staff. Honestly, for the price paid, it doesn't fit with the location and the service provided. If they continue like this, they won't go far. We walked around the hotel, and there was no staff to be seen. Excellent place, beautiful, but the staff lacks a lot of training, and there is a lack of staff numbers.
