Grüner Wald Hotel Gasthof

The "Grüner Wald" restaurant in Warzen is definitely worth a visit. We drove to Warzen based on a recommendation, even though it meant an hour's journey. The first impression when entering the dining room was pleasant and modern, with plenty of parking spaces in front of the door. The seating was arranged so that there was enough space between the tables and you didn't have to sit on your neighbor's lap. The surprise menu with four courses was an absolute hit and impressed us very much. I had only stated that we didn't want lamb or coriander and were accordingly excited to see what the kitchen would conjure up. A total of five courses were served, including a small surprise intermezzo. The menu was so delicious and creatively presented that it was obvious that the kitchen not only enjoys cooking, but also the modern art of plate presentation. The food was very varied and included tomato bread with goat's cheese and avocado, a lobster soup with asparagus emulsion and North Sea shrimp, iced green cucumber salad, a perfectly cooked entrecôte of pasture-fed beef with potato gratin and a beef juice that was worth the trip, as well as a dessert with homemade marshmallows, cold blanched rhubarb and two different ice cream creations. The oak-aged VDP Riesling that was recommended to us with the meal was a real highlight. I have rarely had such a good wine outside of the German wine-growing regions or in a non-star restaurant. All in all, the visit to the "Green Forest" was an absolute delight and I can recommend it to anyone looking for a special culinary experience. The restaurant is definitely an insider tip, as it is not yet mentioned in the MICHELIN Bib Gourmands Guide. I will definitely come back!

Very nice hotel in a quiet area. Spacious and clean rooms. Breakfast is average. the hotel restaurant is really good, excellent dishes at fair prices. Staff always polite and kind.
