The bad: * When I originally booked this hotel, there was confusion between the cancellation policy the hotel provided me when I booked, versus what was in the ******* policy when I booked. ******* said I had 14 days before check-in to cancel and receive a full refund, and the hotel said I had 48 hours before check-in to cancel and receive a full refund. Because I only received a confirmation email from the hotel and not *******, I believed my cancellation period was the latter. When I tried to cancel the reservation for a full refund, the hotel would not let me do so, despite admitting their error. My stay was for 14 days, so I offered to split the difference with them: I’ll stay for a week and the hotel would refund me for the 2nd week and I’d find lodging elsewhere. They still refused to budge, even though it was their error which lead me to believe I had a more lenient cancellation window than I actually had. I was pretty surprised by their unwillingness to be flexible and compromise given we’d both made errors. * I stayed in the ‘suite’, which was a basement apartment of sorts. They don’t tell you that in the listing though, so when you show up, your door is actually hobbit-hole about 16 inches wide through which you’ll climb down into the room. If you have a bag, don’t plan to carry it with you while you descend, you’ll need to leave it on the steps and pull it in through the window. * Because the suite is at ground level, you’re left with a choice: open the window to get sunlight, but forgo any privacy whatsoever. * When I arrived, the room was extremely hot. Fine, it’s winter, so I figured I could open a window and things would cool off quickly. Turns out, you can’t open the window, it’s fully locked. No fresh air, no fan. I’m glad I stayed here in winter as I can only imagine how hot this place gets during the summer. * A lot of things are just worn-down (see images). Kitchen handles have the finish rubbed off, paint is scuffed, etc. * They say they clean every three days. But, because they don't clean on weekends, it amounts to cleaning once a week. Only, it’s not a cleaning, it’s just new towels and toilet paper, if you need it. Nothing tidied, nothing wiped down, etc. * The towels are old, rough, and thin. * I bought myself ice cream one night, thinking I could leave it in the freezer. Nope, the freezer was completely frozen though with ice, no place to store anything. I’d ask for a refund on my ice cream but I think we all know how that would go. * Upstairs neighbors got into a shouting match most mornings and you could easily hear their voices and their stomping. * The bed: Pillows suck, there’s only a comforter, no sheet. * No conditioner for your hair The good: * The neighborhood and location is excellent, you’re right on a canal. * Easy access to public transportation. * Walkable both to city-center and to De Pijp, a cool neighborhood to the south. * Bed was comfy. * The team responds to inquiries quickly.
