Hotel Alakamanda

We recently stayed at Alakamanda Hotel in Anuradhapura for the second time, and once again we had a very pleasant and comfortable experience. This stay was also the first stop of our journey to Jaffna, and it was the perfect place to rest and relax before continuing our trip. The hotel is located in a peaceful and convenient area, making it ideal for visiting the sacred sites around Anuradhapura. The calm and relaxing surroundings truly enhance the overall experience. The rooms were clean, spacious, and well maintained, with comfortable beds and all the necessary amenities. Housekeeping was done properly, and everything was neat and tidy. The staff deserve special appreciation for their friendliness, politeness, and willingness to help. From check-in to check-out, the service was warm and professional, making us feel welcome throughout our stay. The food was tasty and well prepared, with a good variety, and the dining area was clean and pleasant. Overall, Alakamanda Hotel offers excellent value for money and is an ideal choice for families, couples, or anyone visiting Anuradhapura for leisure or religious purposes. Without any doubt, we can confidently recommend this hotel to both foreign and local guests, and we look forward to staying here again in the future.

I stayed at Hotel Alakamanda for 2 nights. Overall it was average—grounds were clean and staff were friendly, but the bathing water quality was not good.

Disappointing Stay – Not as Advertised This hotel looked great in the ******* photos, but upon arrival, it was a completely different story—false advertising at its finest. The property looked nothing like the pictures, and mosquitoes were a major issue throughout our stay. Right away, we encountered problems with the hot water in our room. After multiple calls to the front desk and waiting for maintenance, it took hours to fix, and even then, we only had lukewarm water. The entrance was dirty, the towels were old, and there were no amenities provided. The bed was okay, but that’s about the only positive thing I can say. Definitely not worth the stay.

This is the 1st time we have visited to the hotel and our visit was very good. I have got a good rate compared to other properties in the area. The staff were very friendly and supportive. The place is very closed to the Anuradhapura city hence we could easily visited all the historical places. The breakfast was very good, delicious and included many veracities. We used the swimming pool and enjoyed a lot.

We booked 6 double rooms on B&B and it was a great choice. The rooms though a bit worn out had all the amenities and was clean. The bathrooms especially was clean and good. The ambience of the hotel pool side and court yard was really relaxing and very good for the nice group pics we took. The service was great, The breakfast was very nice with both SL and western options. All in all quite a good find.

Four of us stayed here in January 2024. THe rooms were comfortable and well equipped. The large quite modern building included a spacious swimming pool and a large garden randomly assembled. So far so 4*. My rating for the catering is far lower. The breakfast offering was just not very good at all, lacking in variety and with no helping staff in attendance. The restaurant area you had to go through to reach the rooms, it felt very public as though included as an afterthought. Disappointing, given how excellent Srilankan hotel breakfasts often are. A very small bar area is there with a couple of sofas on which to relax. THe hotel is located some way away from the Sacred City, so a vehicle is required, but that's not a major problem.
