Hotels Near Elhakeem Mall in Aswan

This hotel was definitely a step up from Pyramisa Isis Island, which was the worst place I have ever stayed in my life. The room was comfortable enough, the price was good, and there is a decent pool and a fabulous view of the Aswan Corniche. It was walking distance to the Nubian Museum and to the local McDonalds. As a tourist, you will get harassed constantly by the vendors as you walk, and it is very annoying. The food was not very good, but we found enough to eat. The shower was very weird and would go from unbelievably hot to cold. The worst part was that we were cheated by one of the male receptionists for a purchase at the Italian coffee shop in the lobby. He charged us 6 USD when the cost should have been under a dollar. Not a big deal for us to be charged 6 dollars for decent coffee, but it was the fact that he deliberately cheated us that really bothered me. I didn't throw a fit and let it go, and we just went to breakfast at McDonalds after that experience. The hotel lost money for that reason, as we certainly would have purchased many cups and coffee and pastries from them. Their loss. We also felt that one of their staff members was trying to scam us by asking (insisting) for change for a $20 US bill. The way he acted with us was very suspicious.

Pros The hotel facilities were absolutely beautiful with an amazing view. Traditional Nubian style house. Every corner makes you want to capture the space. We had a rocky start but the hotel staff tried to redeem themselves. We lost an apple watch which the hotel helped us get back ASAP before we reached Luxor. We are grateful for this. Cons Awful communication and hospitality. We were the only guests in the entire resort because of low season but still received shitty service. The hotel is in a secluded place making it difficult to reach.It’s on top of a mountain on a dusty rocky road. The hotel offers a tuktuk. We did our research prior and contacted the hotel to arrange getting to the hotel from the village and check in since we knew we’d land in the AMs. We were ignored. We arrived at the village meeting point at 1:45 but only ended up getting to our rooms around 3:50am because reaching the hotel via call and WhatsApp was so difficult. The staff had no sense of urgency. We were frustrated and anxious in this wellness resort. Our taxi driver refused to take us up the mountain and the tuktuk refused to take us because of our many bags (which is understandable). I’m very disappointed in the service and I know the staff has lots of potential to improve on their service delivery. The hotel needs to be more cognisant of their customer service and guests hospitality. Staying here was stressful. Recommended if you want aesthetic vibes,a beautiful picturesque hotel with good breakfast. Don’t recommend if you prioritise great guest services, comfortability and peace.

The choice of accommodation in Aswan was varied, but I wanted to find something special. And it was during my research that the Nubian Palace, in Nubian Village, came up. How wonderful it was to arrive at the hotel, do the check-in while drinking a welcome hibiscus juice, and then find a wonderful room Nubian style. The bedroom, with 2 super comfortable single beds, also had a desk, chair and closet. Outside the bedroom, but within the area corresponding to the bedroom, in a small patio also with a table and chairs, was the private bathroom with shower. On the first morning, because I had a trip to Abu Simbel that started at dawn, the hotel prepared some breakfast boxes that were very useful. Furthermore, all the meals (open air) I had there were very good and in large quantity. Last but not least… The entire hotel staff was extremely friendly and efficient. They contributed to making this experience at the Nubian Palace a very successful one, which means that I definitely want to return there again in the future.

What sets the Kato Waidi Nubian house apart from its wonderful location inside the Nubian village and by the Nile riverside is the owner/manager Mahmud and his wonderful staff. Mahmud was super helpful when it came to guiding us about the things to do in and around Aswan and he also helped organize our trip to Abu Simbel and our drop to Luxor, at a very reasonable price. He gave us valuable tips on what to buy and where as well. Coming back to the resort, it is pretty big and very nicely done up. There are two sections - the main one is adjacent to the river and the second part is just behind it with at least one corner room with a full view of the river. The main section has a large open air dining area with many tables right next to the river. All the staff are extremely helpful and cooperative and the food is delicious as well. We tried the local dishes and really enjoyed them. The resort has a number of friendly cats and a couple of friendly dogs (which get bullied by the cats) and it was good fun to interact with them. We love animals and enjoyed the cats rubbing themselves against us below the table while we were eating but if someone is afraid of animals then this may be something to think about. Although we stayed in the annexe and not the main part of the resort, we also found it nice. All the buildings are built in the Nubian style of architecture with brickwork arches with no keystones. The rooms were functional and although a bit small, were ok. They gave a sense of what living in the village would be like. Our bathroom was large and nice too with a bathtub, although having a shower curtain would have helped. Anyway, I am nitpicking here. We loved our stay at the Kato Waidi and would love to stay there again.

This small hotel is in a small village. I went in February. It was dry and cold. The air conditioner could be cooled. The wind in the door was very strong. The panoramic room had a balcony on one side and it was colder. Sara at the front desk is more professional and can ask her if she needs to ask, but she goes to work at 10 am. The one in charge of the bar was very unreliable. The pot of hot water for us was unwashed. The pot of milk was released. The water soaked was all paste. The food and hygiene were completely untrustworthy. And sold us two bottles of water. We didn't order it, he took it directly to us. So we thought it was breakfast, and finally showed us the price list and asked us for money. I said you didn't tell us, he said you didn't ask. Aswan's first stop impression is therefore very poor!

We booked Villa Misk because of the beautiful view overlooking the boats and Philae temple in the distance. The villa is slightly out of town, which makes it very peaceful and tea on the terrace overlooking the water is just wonderful. The hospitality here is second to none. Ahmed and his family went above and beyond to make our stay in Aswan the best that it could be. They were very accommodating of our early check in and late check out. Ahmed not only organised a visit to Abu Simbel for us from Aswan, he very kindly organised a driver for us for our time in Luxor as well. Our best memories in Egypt are all thanks to Ahmed’s kindness and expertise. Definitely book this place - it’s a gem.

This hotel is a destination on itself for several reasons. 1- It has the best ”accessible” view of the Isis temple. Warning: the very best view is just a quick hike to the top of the boulder pile on the east flank of the hotel; but don't do it- I got in trouble with 2 soldiers for trying to take pics from there- in Egypt the temples are protected by soldiers that don't want people taking pics from high angles. 2- You are spending the night in an authentic Nubian village. We loved our rooms! 3- The food is authentic, and in our opinion, the best Egyptian food that we had in our trip. 4- You get there in a boat! Add to that the top customer service and the friendliness of the hosts. Among the things they did for us: 1- The manager organized our trip to Abu Simbel with a funny and empathetic driver that never ever asked us for a tip (he got one of course but the point is that he wasn't pushy, which adds to the experience). The price for transportation was fair. 2- The manager let us watch the World Cup games in the TV that they have for the staff room- no TV in our rooms. Interacting with the staff adds to the trip experience. 3- We got our breakfast packed so we could take it during our drive to Abu Simbel. We didn't ask for it. We were a group of 5. All of us loved this place and if we ever go back to Aswan, we know where to stay. We would have loved to make more use of other facilities, or at least spend some significant time by the bonfire. I absolutely loved this place. It is a little bit away from the city (about 3 miles/5 km) but that means you get a little private, quiet piece of the Nile from the room balcony. The staff were just excellent and took care of us so well. The front desk was always helpful and helped arrange our tours and taxis. The rooms were charming, clean, and orderly. The rest of the hotel is similarly clean and charming. When we arrived we had an issue with our room’s AC not working well, and the staff responded immediately and helped us move rooms when it was clear it wouldn’t be fixed quickly. They were similarly very responsive to our needs during the entirety of the trip. The security at the hotel is also great.

I spent more than a week in Egypt, and the most annoying day was here. Choose carefully, not recommended, too remote, and the drivers in southern Egypt asked for exorbitant prices, which was not cost-effective. The hotel arranged the airport pick-up, which was agreed to be 50, but it was still charged 75 US dollars when I got off the car. It was a 30-minute drive, expensive* self-evaluation. The hotel is large and beautiful, but like the unfinished square monument in Aswan, this is an unfinished hotel. The TV is large but has no signal, and the room is large but has no slippers. The driver who sent me to the hotel also temporarily increased the price by 1,000 Egyptian pounds, which was very unpleasant, and then kept harassing and threatening personal safety. I checked out early, and the hotel did not refund the fee. There is a huge difference between the north and south of Egypt. If you are not going for a particularly in-depth tour, it is recommended to return to Luxor after Cairo. Otherwise, almost everyone intends to cheat, and all the prices will change.
