It’s an old hotel that needs updating. The service is poor. The room had a musky smell.

I really wanted this to be a great review, but while the location and the property itself are great, there seem to be staffing challenges. Right off the bat, we were checked into the wrong type of room (bed configuration) and had to be moved. No reason other than "whoops". Then on a tight timeline, the valet was nowhere to be found for 15 minutes and then when he popped up out of nowhere, he disappeared for another 10 minutes retrieving our car (despite the hotel employing a system that uses SMS to request your car ahead of time). Total elapsed time from request to getting in the car -- 30 minutes. Oops on that restaurant reservation! Upon our return, again no valet. We just left the car running in the valet spot and later told the frantic couple also looking for the valet that we wished them luck...

MOst overpriced and inhospitable small hotel where I 've ever spent a night ... We decided to splurge and spend one night here because we were attending an event talking place here the next day. We went ahead and accepted the outrageous rate of $468 a night because downtown Austin is very expensive on weekends in general. Imagine our surprise when a surly desk clerk charged us $629 for our room and told us that only a person not reachable on weekends would be able to change it. When we were the only breakfast patrons at Goodal's in the lobby, we complained to that same desk clerk that the AC was up too high. Instead of seeing what she could do to make a change, she told us that the setting was "centrally controlled", as if that meant it could not be changed. One would think that a place charging such high prices would have exquisitely decorated and well-functioning rooms. Not the case ... I am writing this review from an Austin-area Marriott Courtyard where the rooms are much better designed and about one fourth the room rate. Our room looked out on a fence and the bathroom sink had no place to store toiletries. There was one uncomfortable chair in the room and a very depressing narrow hallway leading to it. Goodall's was out of orange juice, served our frittata cold and could not supply a knife. We were seated next to a window with peeling paint that might well have been lead paint. Austin building inspectors should perform a safety check on this dining room.

I love the Hotel Ella. Its history along with modern amenities is awesome! The room is clean and the bathroom is spotless. They hav an onsite restaurant and cute bar. The only negatuve is you are requred to pay $45 dollars per night for valet parking. However, the valet is always closed when I get to the hotel. I work nights and get back to hotel at midnight so I park in the small parking area at the hotel or across a very busy street. I think the valet parking should be optional.

We had a wonderful time at The Hotel Ella! We were on a girl’s trip…Very professional, friendly and hospitable staff! Alex at the valet area and the front desk staff were amazing! They couldn’t do enough for us! So hospitable! We will be back!

The rooms are great and the vibe is wonderful. But then there's the basics. How to connect with internet isn't posted anywhere in the room, but there's a QE code--that doesn't offer that information. They forgot to include it with my key info. Not a problem--the service was great and nothing's 100%. But then I called room service five times one morning--no exaggeration--from both the hotel phone, and, thinking, it didn't work--from my own phone which gave me a long, long, message and then hung up on me. Finally, I called the front desk and they had to walk my order over. Then I used their text app to request my valeted car--at $45 a night. Wasn't there. "Oh, sometimes we don't get the texts," the valet said. He hurried but I was rushed to an appointment. Such a nice place--and nice peopleb and lovely rooms and a great location--but the combo of old and new technologies don't work. And that's a drag.

This hotel is incredibly overpriced. There’s nothing in de room like tea maker or coffee machine, the view is a wooden fence or a brick wall right next to your window. And there’s a lot of hidden additional costs… You are forced to use valet parking (the valet guys are hunting for your car keys),you need to pay an additional amount “amenities costs” even when you were not been told or haven’t used them. The breakfast service isn’t constant. First day very good by a young lady but the next day it looked like the man just came from the club to the breakfast. Literally everything went wrong. Twice asking how I wanted my eggs. Than still have the wrong eggs. They were cold, they must have been in the kitchen voor long time. Than one of us finished the breakfast while the other one didn’t receive it yet. Tip for the hotel: Become less arrogant, facilitate your clients better, give them more value for the price they pay and come with a price without these dodgy additional costs. You are misleading the people.
