We had a good stay noticed that the lift wasn't working so had a few stairs to get to our room.

Staff are what makes this property outstanding they are so helpful especially the girls on the reception desk who responded to my email requests .
Rooms are very quaint ours has a floor that tilted but it was clean and had everything you needed in it . Food was good , Wi-Fi a good speed and parking was ok even on a weekend

What an absolutely pleasure this hotel is. Steeped in history with a friendly team of staff. Lovely room and a wonderful old lift still in use. Nice breakfast too. If you go looking for faults then of course you will find them. This is an extremely old building. If you want a modern shoe box, characterless room then stay elsewhere. If you want a wonderful hotel in the middle of beautiful Buxton then look no further. I will be back for sure. Thank you.

The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant, and the hotel was full of character. We stayed in a four poster bedroom, which was lovely.
The breakfast in the morning was also very good.
We would return.

Beautiful hotel on the outside, staff are all great especially the historian on reception, full of interesting knowledge! The hotel chain really need to invest in this hotel, it’s full of history but your rooms really let you down! They were clean, but so run down! I felt really disappointed! It needs painting new bathroom suits especially room 13, valences on the beds, headboards that don’t bang, you need to change the mattresses! In the corridors the walls all need painting! You let the staff down. As they are so enthusiastic!

The hotel is very conveniently placed for the opera house and the pavillion gardens. Staff helpful. Would definitely stay again

This is a great hotel opposite the park and theatre. A short stroll to a great choice of restaurants. Managed to get a parking space right outside. The room was lovely, bright, clean, spacious with lovely furnishings. The breakfast was delicious. Ignore previous reviews giving bad comments.

We booked what was described as a family suite for 2 adults and 2 children and we're given room 12. It was a strange room, very dated, broken furniture and tiles, no room to sit up in bed under the eaves. The room was also dirty with sweet wrappers and used tissues dotted around. To access the room we had to go up a small steep staircase. We have never complained about a room before but this time we did. We felt cheated to have paid for this awful room. We expected the rooms to be a little dated in an old building but..... To give them credit the staff then accommodated us in 2 comfortable rooms in the hotel next door for no extra charge.
