I informed Karana Villa more than 2 weeks before arrival on September 13, 2022 via the Agoda APP that I would not be arriving at 4:00 p.m. but probably after midnight due to a flight plan change. When I arrived at Karana Villa at around 2:00 instead of 29.09.22 instead of in the afternoon, there was no one there anymore. My friendly taxi driver called there, as did I. Both times we saw the phone ring 3m away through the glass pane of the completely unoccupied hotel. Another Agoda booking for that night was technically impossible: the Agoda app allowed a booking at 2:30 a.m., but only for the following night of 09/30/22 to 10/01/22. Out of necessity I had to carry my suitcase with over 30 kg of luggage at 33 degrees in the shade over gravel paths until I found a small, open food stall 400 meters away. There I was allowed to stay in the neon light, tropical heat and mosquitoes until 6:30 a.m. When I got to the Karana at 7:00 am, there was still no one there and it looked deserted and closed. The receptionist who reached us by phone at 7:00 a.m. (note with a telephone number on the outside window!!!) only arrived at the Karana after 8:00 a.m. So the start at Karana was very bad - there is always only 1 chance for a bad first impression. Unfortunately, that went on. Positive: 1.) The staff made an effort and was friendly, they also brought breakfast to my separate "apartment" in the morning. 2.) The privately demarcated living area has a private pool. 3.) Covered outdoor seating unit with kitchenette, plates/cups/cutlery/tea/coffee/sugar. Cons: 1) The staff speaks almost no English. Accordingly, the communication was very difficult - something that I usually do not know - eight languages. 2.) Even on request there was no room service. 3.) At first glance, having a private pool in your living area is a luxury. The unkempt condition puts the whole thing into perspective. I've never been in my private pool. 4.) My photos are deceptive: the furniture is old, there were tons of cobwebs behind the TV. 5.) The staff was not able to clear the breakfast. The next day the table was full of ants, so from then on I brought the plates and cups etc. back to the main house myself every morning. 6.) I had to call in daily to get drinking water. 7.) LOCATION 1: The direct neighbor is a carpenter. From 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., tables, doors and coffins are loudly built with circular saws. Sleeping, even on the day of arrival, was unthinkable despite being on our feet 36 hours a night in the food stall thanks to the noise from the carpenter next door. 8.) LOCATION 2: Although only 800 to 1000 meters away from Kuta and other districts, the location is considered Denpasar.
