Quality Inn Near Pimlico Racetrack

Baltimore|2.15km from New All Saints Church
I don't like being fooled by reviews like most of the ones this place has. Most of them must be for a different place. Going in order... First, this place is difficult to get to. The GPS in my car was repeatedly ”fooled” while trying to get there. To say that this hotel is in a rough part of a violent city is an understatement. The only way I succeeded in finding it was to first use the address of a pizza place I planned to go to for supper, and then updating the GPS. This ”hotel” is in an industrial development which has long since seen better days. Getting accosted at an intersection by an aggressive panhandler while enroute was a highlight of the trip to this ”hotel”. When I finally got there, I had to be ”beeped” in by the desk clerk. Yes, there is an electric lock on the door to allow entry into the lobby. This was in a manner not unlike you would expect in a high-security prison. Indeed, most U.S. airport terminals aren't as secure as the lobby of this hotel is. While I was being checked-in, I was intrigued by the ”rules” of the hotel. Especially the one about ”visitors” (and the hours they're allowed) in guest rooms. The inattention to grammar on the signs about smoking (see photo) should've given me a clue on what awaited me. Since this is only a two-story hotel, there is no elevator. However, my request for a ground-floor room was ignored (despite the hotel appearing to be near empty) and I had to navigate the stairs. Perhaps it was for my safety that I was located on the upper level? The room was reasonably well-decorated and initially seemed clean. The whole interior of the place appears to have been recently remodeled. Unfortunately, the heating in the room wasn't up to the task of keeping the place warm on a sub-freezing night. The worst part of all was the absence of hot water at 7:00 AM! This is unacceptable! It was a preview of the chill that awaited me in the hallway as it was quite cold when I went down to breakfast. I have to say ”initially seemed clean” (despite a strange ”guard” installed on the light switch next to the room door), because, when I turned around, there was an obvious ”X” mark/stain left on the inside of the room door. There was also a chip in the finish of the bathtub. The wiring for the hairdryer appears to have been an afterthought. There was no microwave in the room although there was an opening in the entertainment center where one could've fit. (There was a fridge, though...) There was also a noticeable crack in one wall. Finally, there was a stain on the chair. Please see the attached photos. The best thing I can say about this place is that the sausage at breakfast was quite good. The eggs on the other hand, looked like an industrial/institutional product. Between that cold water for the shower, the room not getting above a cool temperature, and the frosty morning chill in the upstairs corridor, this hotel is setting an example of what ”green” pract

My flight was canceled and I needed somewhere to stay so I booked at Midtown Inn on Priceline. Big mistake! After paying the $50 cash deposit (why not a credit card hold?), I asked for a receipt. The front desk staff (owner?) insisted it was unnecessary and that it was impossible to give me a receipt (”it will just need to be crossed out in the morning”). As I tried to understand what he meant by that, he became agitated and after a few more minutes told me I had to leave. I was stunned and said, ”It's 11 pm and I don't have anywhere else to stay...” and he replied, ”That's your problem, that's not my problem. You need to leave or I'm calling the police.” This was entirely uncalled for. I was calm and polite, even as he came around the desk toward me and started gesturing at me. It was pointless to continue talking so I returned the key, he refunded my money, and I left. I don't know Baltimore well but I do know downtown isn't an area to hang around alone late at night with a big travel bag. I don't understand how they can stay in business if this is how they treat their customers.

I attended an event at the hotel the weekend of August 3-7. The entire experience was positive from check in to check out. All staff had good attitudes, were pleasant and accomodating. The facility was clean and the restaurant food was good. The luncheon (our main event) was first class, delicious and plentiful. In all, the weekend was very enjoyable. From Ms Allison, the manager, to Tevin, the bellman, the entire staff is to be commended for their service.

I spent one weekend night here. My GPS took me to the stores in front of the hotel. I was in a Williams and Sonoma parking lot so if that happens to you, just know you need to follow the road next to the parking garage to behind the Williams and Sonoma and you'll find the hotel. Not the hotel's fault, I'm just mentioning it in case it happens to you too. The two gentlemen at the front desk for check in were both very nice. I went to my room and found it to be clean and very spacious. It was very dark though and the whole inside of the room and hotel just seems old. The room was pretty hot when I got in there but it was the hottest weekend of the year and I figured had just been hotter because housekeeping turned the temperature up like a lot do after somebody checks out. At check in, I had asked about a restaurant but they said that theirs closed during Covid and never reopened. They did give me a sheet with a bunch of local recommendations for other restaurants. I picked one of those and when I went back to the lobby to go eat, I overheard workers talking about the broken AC. So the reason my room was hot is because the whole hotel's AC had gone out. This just happens, I get it. I'll say that the hotel had somebody out there in just a couple hours to have it fixed and my room was getting cool by the time I was ready to go to bed which was good. Unfortunately, I had to leave at 0745 on Saturday morning and their breakfast doesn't start until 0800 on the weekends. It's earlier on a weekday. I wish this policy would be changed. The price was reasonable and the location was pretty convenient for what I was in town for. I'm not sure I would stay here again though if I ever end up staying in Baltimore again.

This is probably the single worst motel/hotel I have stayed in my entire life. I arrived early, so I understand some wait. I had to wait more than 2 hours (most hotels I have stayed at do have rooms ready before the listed check-in time). The staff was basically all from fairly to very unfriendly. After waiting for 1 & 1/2 hours I was told one room might be ready. After listening to the client before me state the Wi-Fi was completely inaccessible, I asked them what else I could expect not to work in this room. At this point the manager did an about face and told me I would have to wait another 30 minutes (they were obviously trying to dump me in a completely dysfunctional room). After another 30 minutes I was told the room was on the 3d floor, not the ground floor (I had an injury to my ankle tendon, so it was difficult to walk). When I arrived in the room this is what I found: 1) the door had been busted open repeatedly, so all the locks were loose and had been badly reattached. 2) the faucet fixture was completely loose and wiggly. 3) The hardware in the bathtub to turn the water on and off and regulate hot water was also completely loose and half busted. 4) The toilet seat was loose. 5) On the second day I found a live cockroach in the bathroom. 6) The AC and heating unit was basically impossible to adjust properly to a good temperature and was incredibly noisy when it came on 'automatically' so I had to turn it off. 7) The 'dinette' table attached to the wall was also loose. 8) The only 2 full days (in succession) that I stayed at the property, the front desk locked me out of my room by reprogramming the card keys: not only were there no apologies, but a holier-than-thou arrogant attitude when I complained about their actions. 9) There were innumerable people with significant problems staying at the motel. It almost looked like it was also functioning as a housing location for the destitute and the mentally questionable. On Saturday morning a lady trudged around the 3d and 4th floors, heavily banging and dragging her feet, and every 2-3 seconds emitting very loud lamentations. She did this for about 1 and ½ hours. People had barking dogs at 5 in the morning. There was constant car traffic at all hours of the night. Much door slamming. While some of this might be fully acceptable if it were a charitable organization housing the disadvantaged, to do this as or in combination with a motel, is unacceptable. 10) The cleaning ladies resented cleaning, and basically did nothing and made you feel they had just graciously performed the most difficult and demanding task in the world for just changing the towels. 11) I asked if they gave wake-up calls. The lady at the desk said she didn’t really know who would be there. She then agreed to a certain time in the morning the following day. ***Of course, that call was never made. 12) When given the card keys to enter the room, absolutely no instructions were given for the internet. Business with some leisure involved. Standard business hotel, nice lounge in lobby. Loved having the suite available to put all of our food 😌 never enough space with the mini fridges! Wish there were more amenities to partake in at the hotel but we enjoyed our stay. Near restaurants, parks, and churches.
Inn at The Colonnade Baltimore - A DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel

Chose the hotel for its proximity to JHU. First the good stuff: Staff was uniformly helpful and customer oriented, front desk personnel welcoming and personable. Warm cookies and bottled water a nice touch. Room was generally clean and housekeeping staff wanted to do job well. Responsive staff member came to repair a non-functioning thermostat (needed battery) and noted that we had blocked the TV box and couldn't change channels. Good people all-around. The restaurant was apparently open but one couldn't tell. It was in a corner of the lobby with a few hangers-on at the bar. No coffee or tea available anywhere in the hotel save the machine in one's room - no sugar, no cream - nada. Had to go to One World Cafe about a half block away to get coffee. Hotels that charge half the room rate typically have coffee/tea, etc. in the lobby. I define value as the relationship between the entirety of the experience vs. the price paid for same. Based on this definition the value was substandard. Absent the sweet and attentive personnel we encountered, my star (*) award would be downgraded. Doubletree is a marquis name and this location didn't rise to the standard expected recalling other stays at Doubletree properties. Unfortunately, not recommended.
