The Mount Rooms

In the area I wanted to be. Comfortable with the facilities you would expect. Main road outside was quite busy, so traffic noise evident early in the morning. Men talking early (6:30) right outside the front of the building.

Arrived early on Sunday morning and chloe.l could not have been more helpful. Nice bed, need more pillows, staff were so helpful and friendly. Hopefully be back again and no hesitation staying here.. hotel is on a bit of a hill, so avoid if this is an issue, otherwise, great value for money 💰

The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was very hot with no thermostat to turn the radiator off. The shower was good.

Beds not the most comfortable,children running about and screaming from 7.30am

Our first time in Barry and an opportunity to stay in the town at a reasonably priced local hotel. Although perhaps in need of some re-decorating and a little more modernising, the hotel is nicely situated, overlooking the high street and Barry Island. However, these issues were quickly overcome by the warm and welcoming staff that went out of their way to make our stay so enjoyable. Nothing seemed too much trouble! The guest rooms and social areas were kept beautifully clean and we wish we'd taken our gym gear to try out the facilities. Would definitely stay there again.

We would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Barry who just needs a basic room. The bedding is spotless, free parking, free wi-fi and tea and coffee in the room. There are shabby bits and bobs that need doing but for the price we paid we were more than pleased with our room and the hotel in general. There is a lovely bar and bistro inhouse so there is no need to leave the hotel in the evening if you don't want to. The staff are so accommodating and friendly and the welcome we received from Jacob on reception when we arrived was really lovely. Just a short walk away is a small shopping street with a variety of local shops, buses are also a few minutes walk away and many dining option's are all within walking distance. One thing to be aware of is that many of the roads in Barry are reduced to 20miles per hour at all times, so if you are driving you have to be very careful. We only stayed for one night but intend to go back later in the year and stay for longer. Next time we intend to travel there by train as the train station is a two minute walk up the hill to the hotel and then we intend to use the local buses to explore the area.

This hotel looked good on arrival. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant. We parked on the road below, as the car park was busy. The communal areas were clean & modern. The bar area had obviously been updated with comfy sofas, but the walls could have done with a lick of paint. It is in a good location for the station and a 15 minute walk to Barry Island. Our large room was clean, but bland and characterless, with white walls, grey carpet & white bedding. The twin beds were at either side of the room with one small bedside unit in between them, which you couldn't actually reach from either bed! The only other furniture in the room was a small wardrobe, a mirror and a unit under the wall mounted TV, all white and very cheaply made. The curtains were pointless as they let in all the morning light. Some effort had been made to update the bathroom, but it still looked shabby. I was pleased we had only booked one night, which is a shame as with some decent furniture and soft furnishings, a splash of colour and some TLC the rooms could be lovely. When we asked about eating at the hotel, we were told we could order food in, so although we had a drink in the bar, we then went out to eat and stayed out for the rest of the evening. If the hotel had offered bar food choices, we might have stayed there instead. The Mount Rooms definitely has potential and the staff are lovely, but we won't be staying again.

We've stayed at this hotel several times, immaculate and pleasant rooms. Spotlessly clean, great location for everything. Train station close by for a trip to Cardiff, although Barry itself is nice, the Island is spectacular. We'll go back to this hotel again and again

Only one pillow, single beds when I wanted a double. Mattresses cheap sprung no support. Shower was mixer tap over bath, using bath taps, only worked by running bath at same time as shower. Shower head blocked, needed descaling. Also shower curtain very clingy. Very dated building. Parking at hotel up steep hill onto very sloped parking area. Staff friendly. Used wetherspoons for breakfast.
