This review is for the UNIQUE part of Lopesan Costa Bavaro. My wife and I spent 4 nights in May 2023. We had an amazing time during our stay that was nothing short of amazing. Our butler Victor was amazing and made sure no question went unanswered, no request was too much for him. We spent most of our time in the UNIQUE specific amenities (Restaurant/Bar/Beach/Pool) – the breakfast and lunch buffet very tremendous, the food was great and there was something for everyone. We especially enjoyed the fresh passionfruit at breakfast. The service at the beach was great, rarely did we not have a passionfruit margarita in our hands. The restaurants for dinner (We did the Steakhouse, the French restaurant, the UNIQUE only restaurant and the restaurant where UNIQUE members don’t have to pay extra to eat at) where all really good – the food was always very tasty, the presentation was appealing to the eye and service was friendly and fast. The room was clean, quiet and we always came back to a perfectly made room after our time at the beach. We are looking forward to our next stay!
There are flamingos, good beer, and the female receptionist who checked me in was super friendly. There is a beautiful beach and seaside. There are singing and magic shows in the reception bar at night. Every female waiter I met was very good, warm and friendly. The male waiters ranged from very nice to unfriendly.

I liked everything very much. I am very glad that I chose this hotel. Delicious and varied food. Friendly staff and top notch service. The rooms and grounds are very clean. We don't want to leave
Ocean Blue is a medium size resort. Not small. Not huge like Iberostar. However it has lots of fine dining (5) onsite just like the huge ones. Their beach is perfect with lots of free cabana like shaded seating. Only surprise was our scuba shop was onsite but actual dive boat was 2 resorts down the beach at Iberostar. A 10 minute walk, no problem. This side of island a bit choppy for diving. Smoother on South side. Resort super clean, safe and friendly staff. More young families and older couples. No Spring Break teens! Highly recommend this resort for families.
First the good news: The resort is beautiful. The landscape is nice and the beach area is beautiful as well. The buffet (both at Iberostar Selection and Coral Level are good). The a la carte restaurants are nice and a level up from the buffet. Everyone working at the resort is trying to keep customers happy (thanks Yolanda for making the restaurants reservations ahead of time). The evening programs were nice. Second the not so good news: Problems with the room. After upgrading our room to the ocean from presidential suite and waiting an hour to be ready not everything worked as expected. The TV in the living room was not working and it took a couple of phone calls and a day to have it fixed. The jacuzzi which was advertised as part of the room did not work either and it took two days to have it fixed. The A/C in the bedroom could not get to a cool level during the entire stay. And finally one night the electricity went out at midnight and didn’t come back until the next morning (intermittently). No explanation or apologies from the hotel was ever provided). So plan your expectations accordingly.

Arrived and had a speedy check in, porter took cases to our room which was 8004 slight musty smell on arrival but this soon cleared. Unusual layout with twin sinks in the main room, separate WC and large shower cubicle. Plenty of storage and loads of coat hangers. Drawers were wonky but still usable. Fridge with beer water and soft drinks. The toilet only flushed but would not flush again so a quick call to maintenance and this was sorted. A couple of times during our stay the maid had not been by 4, once we said leave the room and the second time she cleaned the room. Had to ring reception a couple if times for water as none was left. On the last day it looks like the maid took.tje plastic travel cups that we had with our kettle, spoke to reception about this but not resolved. There was the main restaurant and several others on site. We were told that the only restaurant bookable for evening mail was the steak restaurant, someone we spoke to queued nearly one hour to make a reservation we did not want to do this. We tried the Italian one night which seemed the same food at lunch time. We tried the Mexican a couple of times but there were oberv20 people in front of us waiting so we did not try again. The food I thought was adequate but not outstanding. A couple of times I struggled due to my onion allergens allergy to certain fish The complex itself wax very spacious with two storey accommodation. One TUI exclusive pool and bar and several other pools. The TUO pool wax very nice but I felt excluded more than anything. All the daytime entertainment was catered to the Soanish speaking and was not translated to English. A couple we wrote talking to said they were going to play Bingo, the caller asked if anyone wax English and they put their hand up but the Bingo was still not called in English. I spoke to several different people in the airport who stopped t different hotels and advised the same. The drinks were OK but I found very limited choice. After travelling to a RUI resort last year to Jamaica found that the drinks choice and the food a lot better. I found the evening entertainment very poor. Had a duo or a single person singing again in Spanish with the entertainment team getting guests up to dance Salsa, etc, before and after the show for a longer period of time that the main entertainment was on. The main entertainment was enjoyable such as a Michael Jackson show, 60's 70's and 80's show, etc but felt they should have been on for longer. The RUI parties we did not attend but were in a separate area to the hotel. The beach and hotel are spectacular but do not think the English are catered for not only in this hotel but in Porta Cana. We did not do any of the excursions so cannot comment on these. TUI did a couple of free shopping excursions but walking g rouglnd a shopping area in the middle of the day for 2 hours did not interest me.
Disappointing hotel. We had to change our room 3 times. The first room was very old and full of mould, bath was disgusting so I requested to change the room straight after our arrival. The reception ( I believe to be also manager) wasn't happy that we didn't like the first room but eventually she offered to us see another room. When we walked in to the room it was slightly better, the bathroom was newer but still not in great condition but the worst was the smell of mould and water leaking from the celling, we had to accept the room as apparently the was no other rooms available at the time. After spending sleepless night the in the horrible smell of mould we didn't want to put our child at risk and needed another room. Frankly there were newer rooms in the whole resort but not every guest was luckily to get a new room. After speaking to the reception third time (manager didn't ant to speak to us first and she was ignoring us) they gave us 3rd room but we had to give them ultimatum, either a new room or full refund. The third room was nice and clean and from there we would start enjoying our holiday. There are 3 pools and two of them are dirty only one pool was acceptable. Food choices wasn't great although the restaurant that you had to book separately where nice. We had a good time at the end but we won't be returning to this hotel.
My 3rd review of this hotel. In 2022 I thought it was perfect and returned. in 2023 it was still very good but quality had slipped a bit. I am delighted to report that in 2024 it has returned to the perfection of 2022 and maybe even better, which I suppose proves it wasn't perfect before. What are the changes? i am delighted to say there are a few and all positive. They have added a new restaurant and extended the menu at the existing restaurants. They have added a beautiful new walkway over a small nature reserve to the new Italian restaurant, which is also a new section of the hotel. They have also added waterslides but this is away from the main hotel which is both good for the children and the parents and makes the main pools quieter. The entertainment has also improved and returned to the quality of 2022 or maybe slightly better with typically a singer at 8pm and a show at 9pm , a micro improvement here would be a 14 day rota not 7 days, we did sit through the same shows as last week sometimes. Some form of entertainments for the adults lasting to midnight would be a welcome addition It did feel they were quite pleased if you went to be at 10pm because it means you are not drinking any more., The Butlers have been re badged as personal Concierge, I have no idea what the difference is but ours ,Yacaira was helpful and friendly. We again had a preferred club swim up room and this option is worth the higher price. As previously reported the quality of this hotel is wonderful, no tacky wrist bands, no fobbing you off with cheap drinks. Everything exudes quality. We have now been 3 times and we are thinking of booking again. Top tip, I know the hotel pool is beautiful but do spend some time on the wonderful beach.

GGuest UserThe hotel was very clean, but the staff should have more attention and respect for the guests and not to deal with them badly since arrival, because by checking the staff I was doubting my reservation and the package I bought online by trip.com He waited for several hours, embarrassing me with the other guests who were doing checking, leaving me standing for a long time and in the end he told me that he was going to check me out. But he did sign me a guarantee until they could contact Trip to confirm, too The food has gone down a lot of quality, not even a restaurant open 24 hours, I asked for a dinner service for the room at 12am and it never arrived, they should improve its quality since it is a 5 star hotel.
We had an amazing stay at this location. Plenty of parking, with 24 hour security and private gated entrance. The breakfast is absolutely great!! I will definitely return! The heated pool is so relaxing with the outside bar area and restaurant. Rosa and Alvaro were very attentive and professional.
